What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Wow, 20 x 20 is a goodly space, this is 12x30 but only 12x20 will be insulated. Thankfully the offspring are all grown up and housed elsewhere so we get to keep this new toy for ourselves.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Thanks. It's been fun building it but I'll be glad to get it finished. Now it has doors I can get the floor, walls and ceiling done. Hope to have it done by April.

Effect of feeding sugar, etc on bee lifespan

That's very interesting. I'm a very new beek, don't even have bees yet, waiting for my bee keepers course to start and reading Ted Hoopers highly acclaimed book. Today I read about getting them ready for winter, calculating food reserves and how much syrup to feed them to ensure they have...

    Hot Wire Knife

I've been watching some vids of uncapping comb and it seems to me that hot wire knife would be much more efficient in terms of speed and honey recovered as the 'blade' is a fraction of a millimetre wide so very litte honey would stick to it. Has anybody tried this?

    Manly Frame slot, why

Thanks, that vid was very informative and now I have some remedial work to do on the 20 Manly frames my well meaning and helpful relative assembled. I have to say I am impressed at the degree of precision involved in the making of a hive.

    Hello from beautiful South Down

Hi Eric If a bee be half a bee it must ipso facto half not bee. Thanks for the welcome and confirmation vis a vis bee/chicken compatibility.

    Manly Frame slot, why

Hi. very new bee keeper here so everything is new and intriguing. So far I have worked out that the hive I was gifted is a National Standard with Hoffman frames in the brood box and Manly frames in the Supers. I've noticed that the Manlys have a slot about 2mm wide that runs the length of...

Hi all from the AONB that is the Lecale. Santa brought me a hive, bee suit and the beginners bee keeping course so the time for procrastinating is over, a bee keeper I will be. I intend to keep native black bees. Also getting chickens, do bees and chickens get along?
