    Swapping hive/nuc positions

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.

    Swapping hive/nuc positions

Is there any rule of thumb to follow when doing this? For example can swapping a weaker nuc/hive into a strong hive position result in any possible problems and any harm to queen with the heavy influx of new foragers?

    Swapping hive/nuc positions

Never tried this but can you swap positions of strong and weaker nucs or hives to boost numbers and make them stronger to even them out a bit wasn't sure if it was a safe method anybody uses?

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

Thanks oh crap I guess that means I am going to have to check again Thursday to be sure and hives really not happy atm, they had lots of disruption lately honey removed recently and old queen removed me going in hive a lot and were already a bit defensive before all this. I was surprised to find...

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

Queen was out today and bees were being nasty biting and loosely balling her, hive had many Q-cells which I broke down she's out now and in a newly made up nuc where the bees were much more receptive to her feeding her immediately through new cage I guess I will be trying the nuc/combine method...

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

Would you go back in and remove the cage and see what's happening, remove tabs completely if they have blocked the holes or leave alone for a while? could always install more candy if queen is still alive and in cage and reinsert

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

Good evening, so rather than start a new thread thought I would just continue to ask advice on here about my re-queening experience. So new queen went in Friday immediately after dispatching old queen, candy tabs unclipped Saturday. I didn't open hive but had a peak in through the poly...

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

Has anybody tried re-queening a large or defensive hive like this and is there any reason it wouldn't work? 1. Move hive 3 or so metres away 2. Place nuc or box at original site for forragers to return too with some fondant or food source 3. Find and dispatch old queen once flyers have left...

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

Have taken some advice from this thread and gone for it today re-queening a hive, old queen out this afternoon maybe ten mins later new one straight in reaction didn't look aggressive and bees could be easily moved from her cage so I left her in there tabs intact. I guess i'll check tomorrow and...

So you remove the old queen how long would you wait before introducing the new and testing the reaction please?

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

When you have a large colony to re-queen is it best to use the nuc method or not?

    Is this Nuc Queenless?

I had a late nuc made up 31st of July inspected Friday approx 30+ days after split - nothing no eggs or sign of a queen but not acting Q-less I gave them some food as have read this can help get the queen laying, closed them up was considering ordering a queen or reuniting them. I checked today...

A possible new way of re-queening a hive.

Evening, Just curious as to what might happen this time of year if you introduced the queen immediately after removing the old one as mentioned but didn't check for queen cells or missed one and let the new queen out after a day or so, if new queen was accepted would the bees destroy the cells...

How long does it take bees to make a queen cell

So I could risk a late split now? I presume it would be better getting a mated queen in although I have never done this method. I could give the nuc plenty of resources reduce the entrance etc. Do people on the forum have mated queens available for purchase ?

How long does it take bees to make a queen cell

Thanks for the replies, I will get a super for this hive and avoid doing a split then. I have gone very quickly from 1 hive into 4 and it's becoming a very expensive hobby with all the equipment needed. I should have made splits earlier by the sounds of it but had no idea they would run out of room.

How long does it take bees to make a queen cell

Brilliant thanks for the info. I have a honey bound hive packed with bees though on inspection yesterday it's possibly as much as 90% honey or more and no space. I was looking to free up some room for them while at the same time making a spare nuc, they have started storing honey all across the...

How long does it take bees to make a queen cell

Morning, Say if you removed your queen from the hive how long would it take the bees to make a queen cell and how long should you wait before checking for queen cells?

Still time to do splits and get queens mated?

In my area there is a huge flow on supers are full and brood boxes are full of honey and nowhere much for queen to lay. I wanted to make some splits as one hive has made queen cells and they are both so packed with bees now they have become hard to work on for me. Seems like all of a sudden the...

    Splitting 7 frames 3 ways?

Good afternoon, I am after some advice I have a packed Nuc which is 7 frames that has started swarmy behaviour making queen cups and lots of bees hanging around outside the entrance due to being so packed inside. I don't have room for another full hive yet that's my winter job to re landscape...
