    Aggressive bees changing!

I’ve seen a few posts recently about aggressive bees. I have 2 hives 3 miles away from my house, I call this site HELL! As the bees (who have been on that site for over 7 years) were super aggressive. I would wear a boiler suit before I put on my jacket, veil has to be on 10-15 meters before you...

    Any idea?

Any idea what’s wrong with her or what she’s got? No it’s NOT Himalayan balsam before it’s suggested. Her hair is missing and it’s white also she has 1 wing missing. That was from an inspection on Saturday. All the other bees were ok only this one had a deformity.

    Queen-less and refusing to accept!

Have a nuc that is queenless. Introduced a new queen into it on Sunday. Wednesday when I checked and surprise surprise the queen and attendants were dead in the cage. Why would a queen less colony kill off a new queen? Don’t make sense to me. Might be a laying worker but she ain’t laying much...

    Clipped queen swarm!

If a queen has been clipped and the bees have swarmed, how long before the queenless swarm would go back to the hive or would it? Assuming NOBODY has caught the swarm and they are out in the wild.

    Demaree Failed. What went wrong?

I carried out a Demaree on the 18th of May. Queen and frame or two of brood in the new brood box, no queen cups or charged queen cups, other frames of drawn out comb or foundation (full 12 frames) in the brood box. Queen excluder, 3 supers (1 foundation 2 drawn comb) original brood box on top...

    Queen mating

How many mating flights will a queen do to get mated and how long approximately from emerging until final mating flight? If the queen is laying will she mate again?

    Strange royal jelly.

Went through a hive on Monday. Saw 3 queen cups on 2 frames with royal jelly in but the jelly does not look normal. Looks gritty not what I’ve normally seen. Also about 4 brood frames empty (drawn comb) and 2 supers on so plenty space. Any idea why the bees have done this and can anybody explain...

    Covid19

Although there are restrictions of movement, you can still attend any aiperys away from your home regardless of distance or amount of hives. This does cover the Commercial Beekeeper and the Hobby beekeeper. Same as a farmer tending his sheep, cows etc. 2m rule still applies. Guidance can be...

    What’s going on at 4.10am?!!!

I work part time at a night club. I have 3 hives in my garden. Closest one about 6’ from my front door. Only once (at 10.38pm) did I have one bee in my hall attracted to the light. Came home about 3.30am. No bees on the go. Weather quite mild no wind. 4.10am went out side to the bucket, had 2...

Do bees in polystyrene hives use less feed over winter? I expect they would compared to wooden ones but is it much less?

    Excited bees

This year I have noticed a few of my hives acting all excited like they are away to swarm, then after about half an hour the hive returns to its normal state. Would this be due to a spike in temperature in the hive or is there something else going on? P.s. I only had 1 hive swarm this year out...
