What did you do in the Apiary today?

Ok maybe not a minor sting as such but maybe a sting which was a lesser reaction. Say a sting on the finger causing swelling halfway up the forearm for a day, compared to a finger sting causing swelling to the shoulder for three days.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

As all stings are different maybe the piriton seemed to be better as it happened to be a more minor sting then?

    Caster sugar... does it matter?

There must be but I've never been able to find them.

Marshmallows in the UK are made with pork gelatine :(

    Asian hornet APP

There's a huge amount of information out there about hornets' feeding cycles. Observation of actual nests by multiple researchers going back years. I don't know how you haven't come across any. In this video from prof Steve Martin for example, he talks about larval feeding at about 46 mins in

    Asian hornet APP

Regurgitation is irrelevant really. They carry food for larvae back to the nest in their mandibles. The problem is they'd be dead before they made it home.

Leg jiggling: is it a male-only phenomenon? An observational study in an airport café.

It's been a habit of mine since forever and I'm definitely female.

    Queen cage - varroa management

You're right, I didn't hear you say previously that you were born in 1990. How lovely to be a mere 30 something. Did you start your career in genetics in your mother's antenatal classes? Post in thread 'Queen Ancestry' https://beekeepingforum.co.uk/threads/queen-ancestry.47012/post-892906

    Queen cage - varroa management

Enlighten us, which year were you born? I don't think you're as young as you'd like to make out. I've never heard anyone blame anything on age quite so much as you do.

    Queen cage - varroa management

You joined the forum a month ago. That's some quick deductions.

    Queen cage - varroa management

I couldn't prove you wrong any more than you can prove yourself right. How would either of us know how old everyone else is?! I'm assuming you're about my age. 60 ish?

    Queen cage - varroa management

How can you know how young or old the contributors to this thread are? Or just making assumptions? In fact, what exactly is the age of 'certain cohorts'? Maybe some of the younger members of the forum think you're in that 'certain cohort'.

    Queen cage - varroa management

She didn't. It seems like you've spent the morning reading through the entire 3 year old thread before ripping people's contributions to shreds. You only had to read the very last post before yours to see that Elaine didn't get round it.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

So do the moderators. It's winter and they know we're all suffering bee withdrawal.. That's why they tolerate the ramblings of people who pretend they're not American, pretend they don't actually live in America and pretend they actually have any bees.

    Labelling regulations

That's an interesting one. And if it were allowed with the alcohol as a carrier, you would probably have to specify for external use only. Some people use it for gingivitis, etc. I can imagine what that would make their teeth look like!

    Labelling regulations

It also falls outside your beekeeper's public liability insurance which only covers hive products, i.e honey, wax, propolis. So if someone gets food poisoning or some other reaction you have no insurance.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

@derekm has often said that it would be good to fill insulation in the hand holds on the sides of nationals. That's wood though so not sure about poly. But he's also said recently that the benefits of 50mm over 25mm is negligible. If the two nucs are going to be paired under one roof they...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I find the gasvap ok, not brilliant but do-able. I upgraded last year to the better torch and it works fine doing 8-10 at a time. But I would like the security of knowing the temperature is not too high. It's a balance with the gasvap to get it low enough without it going out. A fellow beek...
