Honey yield from 1 national super

Isn't it a faff to reposition them all after transport?

Honey yield from 1 national super

As a legacy of beginning with a 9 frame extractor I still have my supers mostly on 9 frames, saves a couple of quid per box in frames too, and shaves a bit off extracting time. There is an old post on here(what an archive!) somewhere where denrosa had done comparative tests and found the bees...

    Time to change our tune?

Bees are electrostaticly charged hairy creatures buzzing about a little above ground level, there'll be a bit of everything in the environment on them besides what they're actually foraging for when they've been out for a bit.

    Time to change our tune?

Its horses for courses, honey will be a miracle cure for some hay fever sufferers and yet have little effect on others. I dont see any value in denying it works for some, so long as its not sold as a snake oil guaranteed cure all.

    Hybrids & defensive/aggressive behaviour

What latest thinking? My understanding was the greatest threat to their continued existence as a pure bread is hybridization and thats more likely to further occur if there's hybrids already about. Much like bees.

Just for some fun.... an excuse to smile.

David Attenborough while walking in a park came across a really sorry looking duck, covered in slimy mud and mess, so he carefully picked it up and wiped it nice and clean with paper hankies before popping it back in the lake where it happily paddled off. A little strole further on and he finds...

    Why have they done this?

Yup, basically the wire acts as a heat sink and the queen (or the bees who prepare cells for the queento lay in) notice this.

Feeding Ambrosia Syrup Jan / Feb

I always followed the perceived wisdom of not feeding syrup through the winter months until I ended up looking after bees for a lady who fell poorly in the spring. This lady hadn't read the perceived wisdom and had sporadically fed a 2:1 syrup in a four pint feeder on a few occasions from...

Going rate of Nucs and colonies this spring

Obvs anybody vat registered would be a fool not to claim vat back on the boxes. Selling bees is zero rated

An exchange with ChatGPT this morning

No, but as there's a legal requirement to keep records of hive treatments and generic oxalic acid isnt really allowed under our rules, hence it's much easier to declare oneself treatment free than poke your head above the parapet, skewing any statistics gathered on the subject beyond plausibility.
