    One size box

I started with all brood thinking that one size fits all and it would simplify my operating but after last years honey flow feeling the weight of those boxes has made me reevaluate 😅

Price of honey jars - up , up , up

Interested to know what temperature are you keeping the honey at, anything over 20c for extended periods of time would increase HMF levels

Anyone bringing shade to their bees for the forecast heat wave?

I have some nucs made from black phenolic ply in full sun I thought they may overheat so I put ice lolly sticks under 1 end of their roofs to give a little ventilation, checked back in the evening and they had all filled the gap with propolis. They know what they want.

    Mating flight?

Certainly no expert here and probably a different situation but in my second year in the game I thought my strongest colony was swarming, I raced around grabbing a swarm trap and setting it up close by with much interest by scouts, the air was full of bees. Newly aggressive bees

I had a colony that did this 3 years ago they went from a colony that I could inspect without a suit or gloves to one that would start bumping me 50m away, fortunately it was mid summer so requeening...

    Happily queenless

A laying worker would be a nurse bee, she’s never been on an orientation flight so if you shook them out away from the hive site she would not be able to find her way back unless by chance.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Strange year for requeening 3 out of my 5 hives have decided to replace their queens even though the old ones (last years) seemed to be doing a great job, and only 1 of the 3 showing a mated queen.

2020 - is the consensus that its a bad year for beeks ?

Interesting re swallows we have house Martins here and a very low return of queens from mating flights, I’ve always had my suspicions
