Will the bees sort this out?

i can't tell what has caused that....have you scraped any of the cells away with a hive tool or something? or it has banged against something else and the wax was brittle and crumbled... either way, the rest of the frame looks ok and whilst (in my experience) they are unlikely to rebuild the...

    cut comb question

i am probably going to have another go this season as someone i know particularly wants some cut comb, however, i am not doing it with huge enthusiasm we get a lot of set honey in spring with OSR etc around. Presume people wait for summer flow for CC in the main if this is an issue in spring?

Will the bees sort this out?

agree with Swarm clear the wax moth tunnels out was this a wired frame? if so its receded from the bottom and is on its way to being a 'manky' frame to refer to your other post.... usable if nothing else to hand...but on its way

    Replacing old frames

weather not good enough for inspection but fine for expansion within hive can be a problem in early spring

    Replacing old frames

if its in good shape it doesnt matter (imho) how dark although its a good sign of it getting on and i find the darker the comb, the harder to see eggs but various things qualify in what experience will see you label as 'manky', i find comb can start to recede from the edges and therefore the...

    Stopping a colony from swarming

agree....i think i will be phasing out a line which i call 'D' this season....have given them a good run at it but all perform remarkably similar to each other from my observations

    Stopping a colony from swarming

i find i end up with a lot of capped brood frames of stores, which i have to store for later nucs to create room for foundation or comb in the bottom box particularly with my quick inspections on sat...when i come to demaree, i will have too many frames of stores and need to make room for empties

    Stopping a colony from swarming

as in, increase from those that came through winter the best?

    first inspection...

agree and dont mind a ramble at all my inspections were similar to your description and most of mine are on double brood boxes....didn't look in bottom boxes in any as could see there was brood in LBB on stronger colonies because the arc was quite low and therefore extended below...in fact...
