    Reassurance please

I'd read about it but never seen it. Opened a hive today, been struggling to build up this year but the weather's been awful. QC charged 2nd frame in. Another middle frame and another next frame both capped. 1st left edge other two centre. Supercedure I'm thinking as Q still there. So, deep...

Of course, why shape entered my thoughts i can't say.

Copernicus discovered heliocentricity. Later refined by Galileo. Although when Galileo was sentenced by the inquisition he is reputed to have muttered "but it is round" as they led him away.

Perhaps it should be a hanging offence.

Often thought about doing that, certainly easier but we're continually encouraged to vary treatment. Suppose the odd year wouldn't do any harm though. Better than leaving strips in anyway.

    October Brood

Thats what i do. However trying to get purchase on the strip with it covered on bees whilst they boil over can be problematic. And thats in average conditions. Not all the time but on occasion. And the desire to rip it from the frames whilst being stung is sttong. On more than one occasion ive...

    October Brood

I would never, never do that JBM. That would be wholly wrong and an affront to all beeks. That would be beyond the pale sir. Much rather no ling than expose fellow beeks bees to that.

I do vape, around December. Read bad stuff about Maqs and dont trust it. Apilife gas developed resistance already? So still dont know how to get strips outta hive in mid december though, if i have to like the poster will have to. Maybe the temps are kinder further south at that time of year.

    October Brood

I knock back taking them to the heather, bee club has an arrangement with a landowner, as ive never figured out how to get the damn strips out in mid December? I cant countenance opening a hive in the temps we have in central scotland. Frustrating much.

    Swarm boxed today

All done. 5 frames of bees,14x12, into the full hive. Couldnt see a marked queen which is concerning. I'll go back in a couple of days and check for eggs and then vape and feed heavy syrup. Anything ive missed?

Going this norning Eric. Hope im not too late.

    Swarm boxed today

Hi all. I boxed a swarm today, a big one, in September, in Central Scotland. Ive placed them at the site still in the nuc with a hive ready for them. Its late in the year, what are the chances a virgin queen will get mated? Its going to get cold here, very soon, and id rather not keep opening...

Over analysing is one of my many character flaws JohnG. Im going to provide a super each, drawn, and wait. Beeks do a lot of waiting. Lol. I just got a delivery from thornes and they sent a catalogue so I'll circle what they need in that. They can adapt it for an actual order from Abelo for...

Yes Wilco. I agree 100%. Thats the avenue i will take. A spare drawn super on each with no QE. You think below the BB? I was leaning to above but will it really matter in this instance? The contract thing i will discuss later today. That was the first time ive even seen plastic foundation. Not...

I confess that is my initial reaction JBM. With the dates being so vague im tilted to believe there isnt a queen, or unmated/poorly mated queen but of course i need to confirm this. They had a super of undrawn plastic foundation above one hive which they haven't attempted to draw. My instinct is...

I think thats the optimum way forward EricB. A spare super on top and leave them be for 2-3 days. Thanks.

I have spare supers will spare comb, im thinking to place a super on each hive, if there's a queen she'll lay in the super? If no eggs in 3 days then unite with a nuc into a 14x12 brood. I very much doubt they would be aware of mite loads etc. Still, no harm done by an additional treatment...

    Advice gratefully accepted.

Ive no idea why they treated again at the start of spring, rookies is my best guess. They had a super on each hive, completely empty, not even foundation drawn, and its plastic foundation. All the brood frames are rammed with honey. There's no space for eggs anywhere in the brood. You're...

Yes Ian, ive thought about that. I have 14x12 brood spare, perhaps i should simply decant them into it with drawn comb and see what happens then. Seems sensible to work from that point forward.
