    When are the sales?

Many thanks. Any recommendations with respect to the best time to buy or is it all much of a muchness?

    When are the sales?

Hi all New to beekeeping this time last year, completely hooked! Wondering when the sales are normally for kit, I.e. what time of year. In particular I am after a couple of poly nucs. I'm going to the tradex next weekend but wondering if it would save my pocket a few pennies by waiting... I'm...

    Might they return after absconding?

As in, assume they're gone for good and try again with a new nuc (with some changes to reduce the chance of reoccurrence)??

    Might they return after absconding?

The QC wasn't sealed when I got the nuc, most of the brood was already capped.

    Might they return after absconding?

Yes correct. All the brood hatched no problem, the house bees seemed to look after the larvae well. Queen hatched about a week after the last brood did (give or take).

    Might they return after absconding?

It was a 4frame nuc with open QC taken from one of the 4 (now 6) colonies we have at work. Hope that helps?

    Might they return after absconding?

Forgot to add, it's a cedar national with jumbo frames from Caddon Hives. Mesh floor, jumbo brood box, QE, Ashforth feeder with 2:1 syrup and I also had some pollen candy in there too both of which they were loving. I had about 4-5 seams of bees on Friday.

    Might they return after absconding?

Yes unfortunately it is treated on the inside (big mistake made before I knew any better) but it's been airing since march. The bees went in about 3.5 weeks ago and the Queen hatched, mated and only started laying Thursday/Friday last week. It was yesterday (Sunday) they absconded. I knew I...

    Might they return after absconding?

Hi all Bad day today, found out why my neighbor was moaning yesterday about there being "loads of bees" everywhere yesterday (I was away.) They've absconded :-( It's a new hive and u am new to the hobby this year. I've done the local theory course and am nearly at the end of the practical...

    Vaping

Thanks for the great replies so far! Yes, I should clarify that I mean an e-cig vape, not varroa treatment. You can do this with no nicotine so it's just PG, VG and food grade flavouring, so removes one chemical from the smoke at least. I say smoke but it's not. It is a vapour, nothing is...

    Vaping

Hi all So interesting observation today; our bees reacted to vape "smoke" in exactly the same way as the usual smoker. The science is lacking for humans so clearly we don't know what effect it may have on the bees. Does anyone know of any research on the effects of propylene glycol and or...

Capped QC no longer capped and with grub!

Cheers guys. I'll give it a go and see how they get on. There were 6 charged QCs in there today plus the one outstanding which still looks healthy

Capped QC no longer capped and with grub!

Understood but that is what we saw. We had a bee inspector with us as we do every week assisting with our inspections too so I am quite confident the above is accurate.

Capped QC no longer capped and with grub!

Hi, No there is no capping anywhere to be seen on adjacent frames but it is a fully made cell which was capped two days ago. Is it possible that it got a jolt in the car which perhaps killed the queen and they dragged out the corpse and replaced it with a grub? This is my feeling. There was...

Capped QC no longer capped and with grub!

It is the same queen cell.

Capped QC no longer capped and with grub!

Hi all Took a Nuc home on Tuesday to setup my first hive of my own (we have 3 at work which I've been helping out with, one of which I took the 5 frame nuc from with a good amount of capped brood). The nuc had a capped queen cell and everything was transferred to my new hive Tuesday night (2...
