    Internal Anatomy

A question for Bcrazy Is there any physical difference internally between the bees that are in the hive in summer than in winter? Randy Oliver on his web site has an article ? FAT BEES, SKINNY BEES? , I was wondering if bees, being exoskeletal could store fat.

    Plastic foundation

Yes, once it is drawn out nice you can use it for about three or four years, it dos'nt seem to get as dirty as foundation, then scrape off all the wax and give it back to them to start again, sometimes you have to hose it with pressure washer. It never gets holes in it, but you should never put...

    Plastic foundation

Yes I got 50 Langstroth from Canada, some bees do not like them, if you spray with sugar water in a good flow they will draw them, any other time they seem not to draw, or draw cross over,

    Common sense management

Finman You are right about Oxalic Acid in honey which is 5.6mg/KG, treating with Oxalic only raises the content by .01mg/KG that is insignificant compared with this list for plants...

    I believe?

I am dreading a mild winter this year as the gorse came into flower two weeks ago and gorse usually flowers for about two and a half months. The worst winter loss I had was when the bees started to collect pollen from the gorse in Christmas week and continued collecting for about 10 days then...

    I believe?

Finman Some years you dont have to wake them up on Christmas day they arealready flying. That is the problem it is not cold enough to keep them in.

    I believe?

This is not a straight forward question, but two entirely different climatic conditions. Finman?s bees do not fly in the winter, where as Mike?s will, I think that very few hives are lost due to lack of stores, but more likely running out of bees, I am sure there are years when there is brood...

    modified dadant

If you make an eke to make Langstroth brood box (Langstroth Jumbo)deeper you can use them. or you could put some Langstroth frames into your MD brood box and let your bees make Drone comb under, if you are rearing queens you need more Drones than you will get in a Langstroth, or you could use...

    LUS Bees?

Bcrazy I have a question for you, as I have not studied Thelytoky, you have an advantage over me. As mentioned the Cape Bee Apis mellifera capensis is well known for the ability of its workers to parthenogenetically produce diploid workers and queens as well as haploid drones. Would the...

    LUS Bees?

Admin The link you asked for, http://www.beeuntoothers.com/ There are two videos of Dee's bees half way down this page. Some of the other videos are quiet good ,others a bit boring.

    LUS Bees?

Finman I think you are right about Africanised bees, there is a video of Dee working those bees and they are certainly not bees I would work with. She claims they have not recieved any treatments for more than ten years.

    LUS Bees?

The bees that Micheal Bush talks about belong to Dee Lusby and are said to be Varroa resistant, they are also on 4.9 mm cell. Some say allegedly that they also have African genes which Dee refutes.

    Did he or didn't he?

I am troubled by the fact that so much is being said about the alleged quote by Albert Einstein ?that without bees mankind could not survive for more than 4 years!? or is it 10 years? This has been used so many times that it is becoming commonplace, yet there appears to be no reference to this...
