    WSBKA Auction 2024

If anyone is free next Saturday and short of a few beekeeping requisites I would thoroughly recommend this. 😊 https://sites.create-cdn.net/sitefiles/34/1/9/341959/2024_WSBKA_Auction_Catalogue_-_v1.pdf

Interesting change in directors at BE. After “selling off” the company Patrick became a director again today.

Anyone know what frames these would use?

Interesting offering from our friends at Bee Equipment. Ready made "Hybrid National Boxes" for 15 quid! Unfortunately I can't find what the frames fit them so the boxes are pretty useless. I suspect a very cheap purchase by Patrick that the new management have got to try to shift! :unsure...

    Wax retrieved per super?

Has anyone any idea how much processed (ready for use) wax is produced by uncapping a super? I know it will vary depending on method of uncapping but I’m trying to get a ball park figure for one of my clients. I use a knife to uncap.

    New EU honey labelling rules.

It seems that the EU has recognised the problem at least. https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2023/12/12/meps-seek-clearer-honey-labelling-to-curb-spike-in-bogus-imports

    Price of extraction.

I was asked to extract a few supers for someone today but I wondered what a reasonable price for doing this would be? I think there are companies that do this and a mate said he thought Paynes used to offer the service for about a £/lb.

Cock up on the ordering front!

Does anyone use 53mm twist off lids? Due to a cock up I am the proud possessor of 600 gold ones I don't have a use for. I believe they are used for round 4oz jars and are worth the best part of £100 but if anyone can use them they are free (just pay for postage or collect) plus a donation of a...

    Container beekeeping.

I have a client that has intimated he would like another 15 hives on a remote site next year and I have been struggling with finding somewhere that is secure and has storage so was wondering about using a 20’ container to house the hives and act as storage. My thoughts are I could put 600mm...

    Which apiary location?

I have been offered several locations within 35 acres of woodland and meadow and would be grateful of any advice. The 3 locations I have identified are all different with different possitives and negatives. Site 1 This is close to an A road but the exact location would not be visible. I would...

    How to collect this swarm.

I was asked to look at a swarm that has set up home in about 20’ up a tree. The comb is tied into small branches so trying to remove it will be difficult. Would it be possible to put the colony in a sack and cut all the branches?

    OSR going over!

I traveled up the A286 between Haslemere and Milford today and saw a field of rape that was bright yellow last Tuesday is now devoid of any petals. I'd better keep an eye on the field my bees are on.............

First swarm call of the year.

I got a call yesterday from a guy who said he had 2 swarms in the car park of a care home in Bentley nr Farnham. Since I was already up to my eyes in inspections and it was a round trip of the best part of 40miles I declined and suggested he looked up the BBKA swarm line for local beeks. Forgot...
