    1 + 2 or 3

Going to attempt module 1 next Feb plus one other - which is better (read easier and/more appropriate) in the forum's opinion? I see we can buy exam papers (past papers sadly!) for an exorbitant £1 each from B B K A - are there any out there online? I've seen the Mid Bucks pages which are...

    Windsor Sale

Was there today - much better than last year. Pre-ordered all the stuff I wanted and just loaded it in my car at my leisure - topped up with a few impulse buys (like you do) and home in time for lunch! R2 PS. I like their £50 flat pack nucs with posh roof and separate floor. Bought two...

    Swarm Q

Q stands for question and not Queen... Collected a swarm today around lunchtime - easy capture with box raised up around the clump and secateurs to release them from the hedge. Couldn't wait 'til the evening as I'm away for the night. Just putting them in the hive when the 'phone rings...

Did I just invent this? Easy propolis removal...

I just discovered a really good way to remove propolis 'just like that' - Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner - works really well on plastic feeders and hive tools. Might work on leather gloves, poly hives etc but not yet tested. It might damage surfaces so try it at your peril - without gloves it will...

    No Stores in mky colonies?

Well, finally had a gap in the clouds to look at my bees - topped up the 1:1 syrup on my 2 week old shook swarm - a quick look inside saw brood in all stages so that's ok then. Next took a look at two brood-and-a-half colonies. The first one had lots of bees and NO stores. Oops - on with...

    Cheeky fecker?

Do a search for "bees fo r sale" (sic) on ebay and someone in Bicester is 'selling' "bees for sale" signs "just like the ones he uses to sell his reasonably priced nucs"! The signs are only £30 so I guess he won't be selling many of those - although if you did buy one you will be donating £6...

    Feeding after a shook swarm - one2one or two2one?

    A tad confused - doing a shook swarm tomorrow - should I feed 2:1 (2lbs to 1 pint) or 1:1 (1lb to 1 pint)? [_] 2:1 [_] 1:1 [_] Other R2

Shook swarm on brood and a half

After a bit of EFB in a weak colony in my apiary last year I intend (as recommended by the Inspector) to shook swarm the remaining four colonies in the next few weeks. Some questions: Two of the colonies are on a brood and a half with lots of brood and stores - should I shook swarm them into...

    Part P - Wiring Question

At home I have a garage which has an electrical supply from one of the circuits on my house's consumer unit so is protected by an RCD and an MCB. The garage has it's own mini consumer unit. I have just created my own bee shed (not for bees but for the facilitating of beekeeping!) which I am...
