What's flowering as forage in your area

We have just over half an acre of phacelia just coming into flower. The honey and bumble bees love it. It helps with the June gap. The buzz of the bees is great

    Angry bees!!!

I had a hive suddenly turn into what I call head bangers. They swarmed but returned to the hive! There were that many bees I split the hive in two. I removed 5 frames with brood into another brood box (complete hive) and moved it to another stand. All this with about 100+ bees flying around my...

Another manipulation done in haste .

Sorry for the confusion. I expected the white queen to have swarmed but they returned and I didn't see the white queen in the box so maybe she died and they produced a virgin without me seeing a queen cell. There aren't any q cells in either brood box. I will wait to see if I get a laying queen...

Another manipulation done in haste .

Talking about a queen being a goner, can I ask a question? Last Thursday a hive swarmed. I caught it in a nuc box and left them to settle while I did the school run at 3pm. I looked in the hive the swarm had vacated to find it full. wall to wall bees. They were very feisty. They had 2 supers on...

    Wasps

I caught 7 queen wasps in a trap 2 weeks ago but non since, hope I don't see any more but last year we had over 1000 caught in traps. The trouble is we can't find the nests as they are in private gardens.

Once you have bees you find them fascinating. So much to learn but so much fun too.

Best number of frames in brood box

I prefer 11 plus dummy in my BN and 14 x 12 just for ease of removing first frame without bees on the frame.

    Foxes visiting the garden

We even had 2 strands of barbed wire around the top. This is the first time we have had a problem in 6 years. We are now adding an electric fence before getting any more hens.

    Flow on at last?

Plants need water to produce nectar so why can't we have wet nights and sunny days? (Oh sorry did I type that aloud) Ha Ha

    Foxes visiting the garden

We have foxes passing through our garden and they don't look at our hens until today when a fox climbed a 6 foot fence and killed 22 hens. Not a good start to the day collecting up the bodies. We will await his return!!!

    Squashed a queen

This happened to me last year and I panicked too. She went on to lay profusely .

Super has queen laying, how do I get the bees back in the empty brood box?

Quick update, Queen still in super but they have brood on 4 frames in the brood box with brood in all stages and they are building up stores in there too. I tried to get the queen to go down but she was persistent at being in the super so I left the queen excluder off and let her have free...

Super has queen laying, how do I get the bees back in the empty brood box?

Hi, I've not posted before so sorry if this is a silly question. Yesterday I inspected a hive with a brood box and honey super. The super had 5 frames of capped honey and I found the queen up there having laid in 6 frames. However there were no stores or brood in the brood box although 2 seams...
