How to deal with granulated combs?

Uncap a couple of frames at a time and submerge them to a bucket of warm tap water. Give the frames back to the bees to clean them up and if you like so, save the water syrup for feeding them too..

    Raw Balkan Black Locust Honey

I personally find this specific type of honey one of the least interesting taste-wise, pale yellow, almost colorless and very very liquid. For someone that has not seen or tasted this honey before, it may seem very flat. Sent from my Lenovo A3500-H using Tapatalk

    Most expensive honey types worldwide

Quite right, you got a point her :-) I guess everyones honey at his first year would cost far more.. I was referring though to commercially available honeys, such as the NZ manuka one, or the turkish 'Karakovan' one. Is the promotion on these honeys a marketing trick or do they really worth...

    Most expensive honey types worldwide

If one could make a list, which would they be the most expensive kinds of honey sold worldwide? Some time expensive means great product, some other excellent marketing and other times very small production or production on a strictly specified geographical area. For example, there are types of...

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

This thread reminds me also of the fact that the boy scouts of America association used to have a merit badge for children interested in beekeeping. They have withdrawn it now and have it replaced with a more general theoretical approach in 'entomology'. Main reason was, parents fearing their...

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

When I was at primary school a swarm settled down outside of my rooms window, between glass and shutter. They made combs and I thought myself very fortunate to have them there. I used to spend many hours watching them, but eventually the need for sun and light to enter the room has prevailed...

Reverting solid honey into its original runny state

Btw, if kept in freezer (not in fridge) the honey will not crystallize nor will it solidify...

Microscope slides as per syllabus of BBKA Microscopy exam

Perhaps someone who gave/ will give the exams would have some spare slides to share/sell. Yes, I am not going to take the exams, I would like very much though to get an idea about it and hopefully prepare my own slides..

Microscope slides as per syllabus of BBKA Microscopy exam

Does anyone know if there are commercially available prepared slides of parts of bees, diseases and pollen like the ones required to be prepared from candidates of the BBKA Microscopy exam?

    "Inside a beehive"

Just received an email after I contacted the publisher, and they have kindly sent me a sample page, it seems not a children book after all, actually closer to what I expected..

    "Inside a beehive"

Yes, I've noticed that too, but still, if they are photos and not illustrations with cartoons, they could be of some educational use. I doubt if there are going to be any pictures with diseases in there though. Strange that I could not locate any further information.. The 'well known beekeeping...

    "Inside a beehive"

Thanks Dusty, I should have said that already exists another children book with that name. Try to google it by adding the keyword "-magic" that removes the references to "magic school bus" in order to view info only about the other book I am talking..

    "Inside a beehive"

I came along this book, apparently published by the same publisher that prints 'constructive beekeeping'. Claims to be a photo book, frame by frame of a brood floor, but I wasn't able to track any additional information over the net. Has anybody seen this book? Is it children orientated or could...

    Ulster observation hive plans

I am also interested in building one of these for one day shows and presentations.. As it seems, it can be fairly easy done with two nuc 5-framed hives, using one as the base unit and cutting-converting the other to be placed on top.

Version 2 Beekeeping Study Notes Module 5,6,7&8v

Would you suggest this (or any other from this series) book to someone who doesn't want to take the exam? I mean, is it a book that would provide 'concentrated' knowledge to someone who wants to gain more advanced understanding in beekeeping, or is it just a means to help you out with the exams...

    BBKA Study notes

Thanks Teermore, thought one needed this certification on order to sell (his) honey, and as I see the syllabus is quite extensive and requires academic knowledge.. Nick

    BBKA Study notes

Hi all, claiming total ignorance about these BBKA exams, what is the use of the certificate you get apart from making you study and learn and claiming to be a knowledgeable beekeeper. Is the certificate a professional prerequisite to indulge in beekeeping? Is it mandatory for a commercial...

Shooting a hive frame. Advice needed.

Hi all, I would like to shoot some decent photographs of a hives frames, as close as I can and without significant distortion. My plan is to make a 1:1 (or halfscale if I can make a suitable wooden hive) print of them, and place them on real frames, so that they can be used as an educational...
