How many first year beeks quit?

The only time I used MAQS I lost the queen - I don't think it is fair to blame 'weak queens' for the loss when using any treatment. Appreciate that other people have had different experiences to me, but once bitten twice shy.

    Hello from the High Peak

Sure. Should do well in Chapel, but my season timings are more akin to central Scotland than Cheshire due to the altitude and climate.

    Hello from the High Peak

Just outside Glossop, but I've got some hives at Chinley so not far from you.

Is spring getting coiled to be sprung

Himalayan Balsam all germinating now.... mixed feelings on that one as I'm sure it saved last year's harvest.

    Missing larva

I thought all other things being equal, if they want more eggs they feed the queen more and if they want fewer eggs they feed her less? Doesn't stop then removing unwanted eggs, of course.

    Old bees?

Did not know that. The sheep studiously ignore it.

Never had a noticeable issue with entrances facing to any particular point of the compass.

Buoyant roadside honey sales since lockdown

I can buy that as 'not pre-packaged' as you are essentially selling it loose and it is not feasible to label. But surely if it is already in jars and handed to a customer then it is 'pre-packaged'. Or am I missing something?

Buoyant roadside honey sales since lockdown

I've been using Freeman & Harding - even the smaller packs are quite good value, with a wide selection of lid colour/patterns and a fairly small minimum order for free delivery. Always have come pretty quickly. Prices shown on the website are without the BBKA discount - create an account and...

    Foundationless Frames

Pretty similar to my experience, although I use a tongue depressor instead of a wax starter strip. I intermingle (not necessarily alternately) with foundation or drawn comb and never had a problem with the bees drawing it at angles. I string thin fishing line 2 or 3 times across the frame and...

Buoyant roadside honey sales since lockdown

Not tested that locally as I've always used hex, but they do pack together tighter than the rounds. Almost like the bees know something...

Do hives recycle old wax and can queen cells be made from recycled wax.

It's an interesting point - play cups on brood frames are the same colour as the rest of the brood frame. There may be a difference between remoulding wax, and recycling it by taking it to a new position.

Do hives recycle old wax and can queen cells be made from recycled wax.

I recall reading that they would recycle wax to make brood cappings if that was more expedient than creating new wax, but I can't for the life of me remember where. Don't know why they would specifically use it for QCs, but I do get a number of frames nibbles through in the bottom corners...

    Any Landrover Series 3 Experts?

I've got one of those - and it is brilliant, but a shock when getting into after driving a modern car! And you can only get two hives in the back.
