Detering Bees From A Water Source.

I have the opposite problem, I am forever fishing my bees out of the pond, I even scoop water from the pond to shallow trays in the hope they will use that instead, anything I can do to encourage them to drink from somewhere they won't then drown

    Hello

Ah you are nearly a neighbour to me, year 3 for us, so much to learn but on a sunny day like this watching them zooming in loaded with pollen it is great you sort of feel you must be doing something right This forum is a good balance of advice and banter and disagreements you will work out whose...

    Freezing

I know the recommendation is freezing to kill wax moth larvae, can you advise what I need to freeze, is it just the frames that have had brood in, or all drawn frames and / or ones that are going to be stored after extracting? And is it for 48 hours? Sorry to be dim!:sorry: And the Supers/BB...

    How's your summer flow doing?

Can you just put a hive anywhere that isn't privately owned?? I read that people were moving some into the new forest or onto the heather moors and am intrigued if you need permission.

    Old comb

How do you know when its time to replace comb? Is it a time thing or will it look manky?

Trails and Tribulations of extracting. Advice please

Thanks everyone. I think i am going to try one as per Enrico and one as per WoodenBeam. My plan is to nadir under the swarm hive with the least stores, put the other over the hive it came from. And the cappings that contain all the set honey I'll put over another of the swarm hives, I just...

Trails and Tribulations of extracting. Advice please

Ok so which hives are most deserving, ie who would it benefit most the ones it came off or would it boost the swarm hives? All in same apiary (my garden). I suppose I am asking if it is more work for the bees to make stores from foraging or to move it down? And the cappings what would you put...

Trails and Tribulations of extracting. Advice please

Thanks Beefriendly, that didn't make my eyes water too much. Last years big purchase was the extractor, we get a lot of rape and dandelion and raspberries and ivy, if its a good bit of kit I may look into it. I haven't bought from Abelo before, so will now study the website. So do you think...

Trails and Tribulations of extracting. Advice please

I don't expect it is in my budget, is there a link so I can see, do I need to be sitting down??

Trails and Tribulations of extracting. Advice please

Thanks Enrico Is is correct that I can put the cappings above a crown board too, and they will take the honey back? If so, would it be beneficial for one of the swarm hives rather than the main hives?

Trails and Tribulations of extracting. Advice please

Oh, I now realise how lucky I was last autumn, with our first crop, to easily extract 20lb of delicious floral honey. I took of 26lb of spring honey, rape/dandelion abundant here in the spring, not quite the taste I was expecting but a few of my friends preferred it to the autumn lot so wasn't...

    Super/BB

Ok thanks everyone, i'll order some deep frames and foundation so if necessary i can use a spare bb as a super then I'll actually be prepared if I've used my last empty super. (perhaps i should start weight training in readiness) If the weather was being kinder i may have tried a different...

    Super/BB

I am running out of supers, but i have plenty of brood boxes. One of my hives is on brood and half, is it feasible to take the frames out of the shallow box and put into a deep box? so that i can utilise the super elsewhere.

    Harvest or add more supers

Or you could make Damson Gin, and once you strain the gin off, remove stones and cover with melted chocolate, let it set and you get boozy chocolate squares

    Warm way / cold way

Thanks, i thought someone had said that in the Autumn but then wondered if i'd dreamed it, my head is buzzing with things i've read and what i should or shouldn't be doing

    Warm way / cold way

We turned the frames to be 'warm' for the winter, if and/or when should we turn them back?

    It's swarming time again

Oh dear I wish you had posted this two hours earlier, but appreciate it now. The weather was finally warm enough for me to move my nadired super back above QE as discussed last week, but now I've read this article And seen the images I think they are getting ready to swarm
