Tonight I watched nuc 1 ..bought last summer and strong ...a few bees were drifting in and out of nuc 2...swarm caught last summer..weaker but still here... Are they Robbing or just orientating? I did give nuc 2 one of their frames of stores about a fortnight ago... Has this attracted them...

Just thinking ahead for winter.. Does anyone make or use rain coats for their hives in winter? Any reason to or not to?

Just moved my two nucs from last winter.. The swarm nuc is REALLY light...it didn't take any fondant over winter.. Should I try a sugar syrup and if so what strength?.. The other nuc is very weighty!

Just that.. Need to move two nucs tomorrow night..for 2 nights... Nearest and best option is one to one and a half miles away... Will it do?..

I made two polystyrene jackets for my new nuc and caught swarm which I obtained end of summer last year.. Despite a bit of dysentry and a blowing over both are still here and active....I haven't inspected yet and don't plan to for another few weeks...mainly due to fact I need to move them...

So my apiary is a bit damp near hives.. Gonna get my retired father down with the mini digger to run a trench about 20 feet to nearest ditch...I have you tubed pipe backfill with stones and cover up.. Probably need to dig quite close to hives...within 3 feet.. Do I need to move them?..close...

Despite heavy bricks on top! Luckily I had my polystyrene hat on it so neither crown board or roof had come off.... No sign of life through feeder hole but obviously I didn't stop to check further... Whats the chances of my ladies and their queen all having been squashed and frames higgledy...

I've just managed to make polystyrene bee hats for my nucs!!. The craftsmanship is not the finest and I'm sure Ito not 100%... But to quote a major retailer ' every little helps'!!..
