    The National Uncapper

I think you may have made patenting impossible as you have put it out into the public domain already.

    Formic Acid shelf life

Formic acid is perfectly stable for years. However the gel material that is used as a substrate to contain it probably degrades hence the shelf life.

    Wasps

Remarkably few wasp here too. Never known there to be so few:). Also poor blackberry and honey year though :(. I put it down to an incredibly wet spring which even rotted a lot of my onion bulbs which I have also never seen before.

Where is all the 'super' honey this year?

This has been the worst year for a while for me. When things get going it is followed by rain. Have a few supers full but definitely a really poor year.

    Time to be ridiculed again

I think these posts illustrate nicely that a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

    First sting of the year

That is just a myth. The venom is a complex mix with substances and the pH is pretty irrelevant.

    Starvation but refuse feed

I mix a teaspoonful of honey (only my own honey) with syrup. They are invariably on it straight away. Always very careful to avoid spilling which could encourage robbing but no problem so far .

Not changed much here has it?

Grow up Mate and deal in facts. PS. Show me what unpleasantries you are referring to. I deal in facts - show me where I am factually incorrect and unpleasant. You have been back for a week or so and have had a pop at Millet and myself. In my case for simply pointing out you get away with far...

Not changed much here has it?

Oh bless being abusive again - don’t worry your mates will back you up. Hypocrisy rules - and you talk about ignorance. Jog on, I’ve learnt how to deal with bullies - no doubt another ban will be on its way soon as you cannot control yourself - a sure sign of true ignorance.

    Wasp Traps - Experiment

Some people like to waste their money though - even if it’s just a couple of moulded pieces of plastic. Just look at the money some spend beekeeping unnecessary equipment. That is well over 300 quid in traps that Yeovil is using. Nice earner for .......

    Perfect weather for honey production

Yes some of mine are getting silly now and have been thinking the same and I run out of frames supers and brood to put on. I think it’s just that I am not set up for extracting but must get more organised to extract more often. Must admit I am not inspecting anymore though.

    Question about supers

A lot will depend on how much forage is available. If there is still a significant nectar flow they will fill the boxes. Things are beginning to slow down where I am.

    the Big Wasp Survey

What an image. Lunar Eclipse looks good from here.

    Smokers

Don’t know what I am doing wrong. Always smoke hives now. I find I can sometimes get away without for minor inspections but have had a few occasions when I have not used smoke and for some reason they randomly burst out looking for something to sting. Previous week no problem. So now I am...

    the Big Wasp Survey

The non-tenure thing happened way before commercialisation of Unis. The rest of this I basically agree but it is not the fault of Universities. It is the Government and political decisions as I previously stated. You are focussing your ‘anger’ in the wrong direction.
  17. B

    the Big Wasp Survey

The 'profit' you refer to is needed to make the university function as the Government refuses to fund them adequately - what can't you understand about that and why do you have such a problem with it? What would you have them do - have not money to do anything so become cheap. Perfect for the...

    the Big Wasp Survey

Apart from a few research institutes there is not much other academia than the Universities; in the UK anyway. A strange distinction. Universities have to make money to fund research. The Government does not want to fund our Unis then they have to charge fees in order to compete globally. Its...

    the Big Wasp Survey

Cannot really see why not. Risk can be managed - large sample pool will 'smooth out' random data. Seems fine to me.
