    Dealing with swarms

I'm fuming. It's been one heck of a year with swarms in Cornwall. I'm not on a swarm list as I'm full on with my work atm. But on Facebook and with customers I'm hearing of nasty advice for how to deal with bee swans that have gone Into buildings. At least 3 times I've heard people say they...

I'm hopeless and hormonal pls help

You see that's where I have lost my brain power🫣. Forgot that with a new queen there is going to be a nice gap in brood so I can get rid of the crappy stuff🙄 thank you . Would you remove a couple at a time and bunch up frames together and add new frames to the side or put new frames into where...

    Overwintering a nuc

After all the help and feed back I had on this post I ended up packing the nuc inside some polystyrene boxes I had and insulated the roof as well. The colony got through 3 blocks of fondant, and is now happily in a standard brood box with 3 frames left to draw out. Thanks everyone

I'm hopeless and hormonal pls help

I'm worse now than I used to be I can't seem to identify and prioritize boptions never use to have that issue. 🫣 Do you mean use a torch?? Never thought of that, Yes swarmed but still a good size and I may well have caught swarm unless they've done it a couple of times which is unlikely but...

    I'm sorry😁

So I'm on a Facebook holiday which means. Now using my brain ( well trying to) and planning ahead rather than just festering on FB, hence all my questions tbh I've muddled along for 16 years with my bees, but just want to start doing things a bit smarter . I'm going to need to change frames...

    Which budget wood hive

I pop up to okehampton for my Cedar hives, the thornes ones do the job, but not a patch on national bee supplies. Not sure since they changed hands but worth popping up for a drive I would suggest

    Overwintering a nuc

Yep it's a flat roof but up 10ft. Bees prefer his chimney so need it as high as possible so they find box before flue, as a chimney sweep it gives me a total headache🤣. He has a lower roof,. But I'm worried they will go over the top and straight for the house

    Overwintering a nuc

Having never used polys are they any good as bait boxes, we really struggled wit lifting down a bait box last night. Wondering if a poly hive would work as a bait hive. Owner hadn't seen the swarm arrive luckily hubby spotted it a few months along but was a mother 8 weeks before I could...

    Too late for Varroa treatment?

I'm just wondering how many treat regardless of issues, so just putting the thought out there, it a bit like being told by your bet to treat monthly for fleas,. If there isn't an issue why chick unecessary chemicals into your hive. I know I did in the early years.

    Yesterday's antics

My hubby has a customer with a beekeeper nearby who always manages to lose swarms which used to end up having to be destroyed to to being unable to remove them and issue locations. Over the last few years I've popped bait hive up for them to catch and reduce issues. Usually it's only small ish...

National deep box to hedgehog nest?

My hedgehogs prefer old feed sacks fallen behind log store 🙄 had one have a litter of 4 in that location last year. I've had them nest up in stuffed sacks with straw in as well. So basically any nook or cranny will help

    Too late for Varroa treatment?

Just as a thought to a new beek, re treatment, do you actually have an issue with varroa?? If no issue, do you need to treat??

    Decisions decisions

Decisions decisions, got a colony with on and half supers full most but not all capped in 2nd super. What would people do, I've got enough for me so happy to leave two supers on but is that too large a void for them to keep warm over winter?? Still two frames in brood not drawn out and bees...
