    Bee shed

Any advice on ‘sheds’ for beekeeping. Mainly to be used for honey extraction. I will be able to connect to electric, I have a 20 frame electronic extractor. Thinking of getting a stainless steel sink to go in the shed. Looking at a shed measuring 10 feet by 6 feet.

Took a picture of worker together with drone brood here in East Yorks. The drone brood has yellowish caps to them… not seen this before. ( It’s old comb & I know a bit late for drones. ) Any thoughts on this phenomenon of yellow capings?

    Moving a virgin queen

Collected a swarm that will probably have a virgin queen. Rather than wait for eggs I’m thinking of merging now with a Q- hive. If the virgin Q hasn’t finished mating flights would it reorientate if I moved the nuc 3+ miles & merged?

    Granulation label

I don’t think a granulation label is a legal requirement. I lost a sale due to the label as the Thornes label has a bold headline of ‘Granulated Honey’! It’s made me think, perhaps it’s unnecessary… but I do know there is a warning about honey being unsuitable for infants under 12 months. What...

I have followed advice on here and moved the BB so bees the flying bees fly back to the original site. I have shaken the bees out and hopefully got rid of the Q. I have been back in 7...

I normally store extracted OSR in buckets and leave to set hard then use the dyce method to make soft set honey. Has anyone tried making soft set this way but from immediately extracted honey before it’s set?

    Demaree

I have around 10 demarees & I don’t have the time to dismantle the hives to check the bottom box. I move all the brood to the top BB with a demaree board and an upper entrance for the drones and virgin queen . I reduce to one QC, often only just one or two. With not inspecting the bottom boxes I...

    Switching 2 nucs places

Inspected 2 nucs both with queens & brood. One very strong with 4 frames of brood plenty of bees the other 1 frame of brood and just a few bees. None of the frames in both nucs had full frames of brood. To balance the bees I was thinking of switching round the boxes for a while. Would this work?

    Beekeeping Shed

Any advice (or links) on the best sheds to buy. I currently store all my supers etc in my home and garage and need to move them all out. Currently have 15 hives so need a largish shed to be put in my field (2 acres). I’m told if it has wheels on planning permission not required.

    Ejected larvae

I’m helping a beekeeper who has 2 hives with nearly fully formed larvae being ejected on both. See pic. One explanation offered is its drone larvae, any other explanations. Both hives have adequate stores & been treated for varroa (vaped).
