!!!Stick Your Entrance Blocks in Newbies!!!

Better to prevent a wasp problem from starting in the first place than to try and sort one out. ... take your bits of wax and blobs of honey home. ... don't drip honey about. ... don't unnecessarily manipulate. ... don't put wasp traps out to attract wasps from far and wide that otherwise...

Batteries Can Be 'Charged' - Queen Cells Can't

Queen cells can be 'sealed' or 'unsealed'. Not quite sure why this word 'charged' has entered into beekeeping on this forum.

Can't Get 15% Lactic Acid Anywhere

That large UK beekeeping retailer was selling 15% lactic acid not so long ago in bottles with a natty trigger spray. Can't seem to get it anywhere. Anyone selling this stuff? Thanks.

    Starter Strips in Supers

Never used starter strips before. I use MD and cut wireless super foundation in half using a pizza cutter. Cut with a wavy line. However, I never thought to bend over the foundation under the top bar wedge and instead wedged the foundation in the normal way. What do you think? Okay? Thanks.

    Heated Uncapping Tray Questions

1/ Doesn't the melted wax taint the taste of the honey? 2/ Will these things handle comb containing granulated honey? Like granulated OSR honey with the big sugar crystals and cement-line consistency. Thanks for any help.

    Windows 8/MS Office Question

If someone is running Windows 8 I am led to believe that older versions of MS Office will not work on it. Would anyone be kind enough to provide more advice on this matter? I am hoping to load MS Office onto a Windows 8 computer using old fashioned disc and not download. Thanks.

    Internet Explorer Question

Don't know why this program has all of a sudden started to do this, but when I click on a link, that link opens in a new window rather than actually taking me straight to it. Driving me nuts. Have tried and tried to rectify, including downloading a newer version of IE, ie. IE8. Thanks to anyone...

    My Computer is Busted

My PC wasn't switched on at the time, but it was hooked up to the mains, when a DIY job I was doing required the turning off of the mains electric at the fuse box. This turning off and on of the mains electric seems to have jiggered-up my PC - none of the USB ports now function. Any ideas why...

    Dog Poisoning Incident/Agricultural Spraying

Okay, what the Holy **** would be a grower of oilseed rape be spraying on his crop in the last week or so that has possibly almost killed our pet dog? We are not quite yet pointing the finger, but we would like to establish what this poison might have been. Our dog is not dead, but we seem to...

    Mobile Phone Question

Okay, my mobile phone rings out as if someone is calling me. I answer it just like I always answer it. But instead of hearing someone on the other end I hear the sound you get when you are making a call to someone and it is ringing out for them to pick up. Confused. If anyone could explain this...

    Flu Virus From Hell

Be warned ... it is doing the rounds. Had I have known it was this bad I might have gone and lived in a cave for a few weeks to try and avoid it.

    Trail Cameras Part 12

I know that there's a few of you that are using these to help protect hives. The one I am looking at can record 1 to 60 sec upon activation; the length of recording time being programmable. But say if a camera is activated and a couple of scumbags spend half an hour getting your beehives on the...

    BBKA and BDI

Just doing my BBKA renewal and have never been able to work out why anyone not wanting BDI still has to pay £2.00 for it in the general membership fee, giving a total of £29.00.

    Dutch Ban on Ritual Slaughter

A good ban, and one that will mean that the slitting of animals throats to kill them in order to make Kosher and Halal meat will be outlawed. But it will only mean that Halal and Kosher meat will be imported from other countries into Holland, and probably lots from greedy farmers in the UK who...

Get Your Entrance Reducers In Or Get Wasp Trouble

Many colonies in the UK have now passed their peak and maybe no longer warrant an open entrance. And this is especially the case with colonies that have been broodless for some time. There is many a new beek that is late with his/her entrance reducers and in the meantime wasp trouble has started.

Dimensions of Kieler Top Bars Reqd.

Seen as my hope of getting both some Kieler and top bars in a reasonable timescale from a UK supplier of these products seems to have evaporated, perhaps someone could give the dimensions of the top bars so that I can make my own. Thanks.

Who's idea was it to build a whole load of nuclear power stations in an earthquake zone?

    Correx Nuc Boxes

I believe the five frame nuc boxes that are used for beekeeping are made to a standard design, but the manufacturer adds some mesh to cover over the hand holds, ie. they are not made as 'nuc boxes'. Anyone know a supplier of these?

    Computer Help

Tried to add a mini USB camera and USB ports did not work properly afterwards. Tried system restores. Resorted to inserting recovery disk to do a full system recovery. Should the system recovery have returned my PC to how it came out of the box? If so, I didn't. USB ports still do not work...

    Water Content

Lots of stuff on the max water content of honey on the internet, but I have never seen anything from Trading Standards or anyone else giving us hobbyist/side-line beeks a definitive figure. Is it up to us to guess? Does a max of 20% sound about right? Not talking about heather honey here.
