    are wax moth getting immune!

How did you find ordering/shipping of that. Given how much you get in the pot I'm half tempted to spray the internal surfaces of the entire shed given the little blighters seems to have no problem procreating in the absence of any frames being in there.

    Handling wax moth

I have a similar issue, and suspect the problem is there is enough other stuff in the shed to support their lifecycle when the frames are in use in the hives. I'm guessing the name 'wax moth' is a bit of a misnomer as wax and the various buildup on it from brood isn't the only source of...

Online websites or apps for selling honey locally?

Or perhaps try your local association - some will buy suitable quality honey from their members and sell it on at local shows/events etc. The difference in what they'll pay you and what they sell it for helps top up the association coffers.

Online websites or apps for selling honey locally?

There's the Urban Honey Collective, and I'm sure I stumbled across a few other similar sites in the past. Try Googling them, for some reason it's mangling the link when I add it.

    How long should veils last?

It's possible to cover holes/splits with duct tape (or similar) inside and out and providing the tape is not in your main field of view it'll keep the bees out. Snagging the hood on brambles is what's put the holes in mine.

    filter mesh size?

Yes, if I'm being optimistic... Or the eggs of some beastie that has made the crown board it home if I'm being pessimistic...

    filter mesh size?

In the last week or so I've extracted a handful of supers and am in the process of bottling it all up. Every know and then I see small black embedded in the jarred honey. I'm putting the extracted honey through a double strainer that supposedly has a 1.5mm and then 0.5mm mesh sizes, and as far...

    Honey Extractor

I'm also curious about this - for the £300 difference in price between this and the other Lyson 12 frame extractor there must be some over and above moving the motor and drive mechanism from the bottom to the top. Presumably the materials are also thinner and the overall construction is less...

Squish & Leave or Squish & Combine

I'm assuming they'd break through the newspaper in fairly short order (within a day given I put a few small slits in it) but removing a significant quantity that allows mixing will take a few days. How long should I leave it before checking to see how they're getting along and trying to confine...

Squish & Leave or Squish & Combine

I've a hive 14x12 hive that seems to be struggling to get beyond 4 to 5 frames of brood. Coupled with this is an increasingly feisty nature that's resulted in a bracelet of stings this afternoon. I've a second hive on 8x12 that's going gangbusters, currently filling a super/week and was...

Strange behaviour. What are they doing?

I saw a similar thing last year, maybe this offers some suggestions: https://beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=39645

    Anyone been to New Zealand?

We spent a couple of weeks driving round the south island and you find yourself stopping at the side of the road taking in the view - if you just drive from A-to-B on a tight schedule you'll miss some staggering sights. Heli-Hiking on one of the glaciers was a good fun - I think we did Fox...

    Cleaning green jumbo feeders

Yep them's the ones. I only had a small amount of syrup left in the corners. I guess you could remove the plastic cups and give them free reign on the residual syrup if you wanted to, or just fit a smaller feeder to allow them to finish off the stuff they couldn't get to

    Cleaning green jumbo feeders

The ones I have have ribs on the surface of the cone and also the cup that sits over them. The only way I can see of drowning bees with that set up is by pouring in a large volume of syrup such that rises up the bee space faster than then can walk away from it.

    Cleaning green jumbo feeders

Does anyone have any tips on how to clean the green jumbo feeders? My bees have decided to fill the voids on the underside, and the cones used to access the upper side, with large amounts of crystallised comb. I've hacked out as much as possible, but the dregs are proving rather difficult to...

    Mouse guards and reduced entrances

I guess it depends on the sort of mouseguard you bought, but when you've got the entrance down the size you plan to overwinter with, cut the mouseguard to fit that width? I got given a mouseguard like this with the first hive iI used. Cut it into 4" sections and held in place with a couple of...

    Honey extractors RPM

Isn't the key thing here the RCF (relative centrifugal force) being applied to the honey in the frames rather than the RPM they're whizzing around at - that way you can compare across the range of extractor sizes? 500rpm on small diameter 2-frame extractor is going to be exerting a very...

    Extractor question please

Out of interest what make is it? I'm contemplating forking out for an extractor having experienced the bun-fight for association equipment following OSR and a tangential-cum-radial seems like a nice compromise given the small number of hives I have.
