Low store and possible dry brood?

I'm not doubting your experience, just trying to explain what's going on in my garden when I live in the South West of England and you are in Scandinavia! The last two sentences I wrote were questions, not statements. I'll just leave it there I think.

Low store and possible dry brood?

I really don't think they're cold though. It is very sunny here and has been for the last week or so (we had a couple of wet days Friday and Saturday, but dry and warm now). Normally they all 'go to bed' at 6-7pm, but have seen them out until 8-9pm in the last couple of days. Lots of fanning at...

Low store and possible dry brood?

Cool, will get rid of that then, they're ignoring it anyway! They have 11 in all, 5 in the middle, three either side, with the first side of the new three starting to be drawn out. There are a lot of bees, so kind of surprised they hadn't done more, but like you said, I guess they'll do want...

Low store and possible dry brood?

Thank you, that's such a relief to hear! They are on 5 - 5 1/2 frames, but certainly not a full frame of store. The weather has been good (a couple of wet days) and sunny, I have an enclosed floor so I'm sure they're not cold, a lot have been hanging round the door even into later evening...

Low store and possible dry brood?

I took on my first nuc of bees just under two weeks ago. Left them for a couple of days then settled them into a National, with no super (after my post about the frame runners -all sorted now, and looking for a home of anyone wants four of them!). I then went on holiday for a week and today was...

    Suggestions/solutions?

I don't know if I need more or less drink to get my head round that!

    Suggestions/solutions?

Wow, just checked in, didn't expect so many replies, thank you all! The weather is supposed to be a bit better for the next few days, so may have a little look then and see what I can do, but I'm on holiday for a week from friday, so am tempted just to leave them be for now, with brood box...

    Suggestions/solutions?

Thank you, I hope they appreciate it too! I switched the floor the hive came with for an open mesh with an inspection tray. I really want to be a good bee mum!

    Suggestions/solutions?

I had wondered that with the excluder, but couldn't see an obvious up or down. Will take a better look tomorrow, have put it in the shed now as not needed just yet.

    Suggestions/solutions?

Right, super removed, cardboard strips added, crown board and roof on (does hide gap well!) and hopefully less draughty bees! I just feel a bit gutted/frustrated that I thought I was making an improvement only for it to bite me on the backside! Thanks so much :blush5:

    Suggestions/solutions?

Thanks for replying so quickly. They came on 5 frames (good lot of brood and food) and I was advised to put them in in order between three frames of foundation either side. I wasn't going to put the super on, but was advised by the seller that it would be ok to (He's had donkey's years...

    Suggestions/solutions?

Hi, this is my first question/problem, and as such a relatively small one, but would appreciate anybody's advice. I collected my first colony of bees yesterday. Brought from a very good source, travelled safely in a nuc which I left them in before moving them into my hive this afternoon. So...

    Hello!

Hi everyone, I've nearly completed my first hive set up and am hopefully due to collect my ladies in the next week or so - excited and nervous!! I plan to have them in my garden, neighbours have been told and are fine - phew! I completed an introduction to beekeeping course and felt quite...

Ah, I see, no problem :thanks:

    Chippenham (North Wiltshire).

Hi, I may take you up on your offer if it still stands? I'm nearly complete with my first ever hive and am expecting to be able to take my first bees in around a week. I have just completed an introductory course with Ron Hoskins and Ron Hill and don't want to bug them with what may be seen as...
