    no they are definitely for keeping bees in i asked what they were and was told a beehive shelter to place hives inside,but no one was able to explain how they worked.

    it is very like an out door oven, and very similar to the house picture but the door is screwed on. saw it at a nature reserve near Lurgan in N.Ireland while visiting with the kids

    hi dishmop, its very much like an arty outhouse. A large stone building, the hive is slid into it and the bees fly out a chimney at the top, there was no one about to explain it as i was unsure if the bees could warm up enough to fly and how easy inspections would be sliding the hive in and out.

    they are definitely not boles, it is very like a little stone outhouse to set a hive into. i have tried looking for an example on the net but cant find anything. will have to go back and take a picture sometime. i can see the use of a hay shed but these seem dark and cold. worker

    thanx for replying, these are large tear dropped stone buildings with a back door to slide the hive into and lock away. the bees fly out a hole in the top. they are about 12-13ft tall. i cant get my head around how they work, always thought bees needed sunlight on the hive

    Hi i have been keeping for 3 years now and LOVE it. would love some advice I have recently seen large stone structures used for housing beehives just wondering if anyone knows how and if a beehive stone shelter works worker
