    Extractor basket

Great advice - thanks everyone. I know a local powder coater so will see what he says. Not sure how easy it'll be to strip existing plastic coating off the cage though. Thank you

    Extractor basket

We recently acquired an old EH Taylor manual Stainless extractor which is fine but the extractor basket is in poor condition - split perished plastic coating over rusty metal cage. Anyone know where can I get a replacement? Size is 365x165x240 Or a similar basket that would fit? Any advice...

    Got Mites... but NOT varroa

Yes, the tray has been there all winter - thanks for the advice! Could these bugs be 'pollen mites' I wonder?

    Varroa Mite ?

I just posted a question in Beginners section - NOT varroa mite - trying to identify some tiny mites seen this morning. Norfolk Mongrels

    Extractor basket

Hi Redwood, it's stainless steel - apart from the drain tube / tap which has gone a bit rusty. I'd attach photo if I could work out how.

    Got Mites... but NOT varroa

Hi, we started beekeeping last year and have one colony over wintering. In the Autumn we treated with Apiguard and didn't have too many Varroa. On checking the inspection tray this afternoon however for the first time since, I was surprised to see lots of tiny wriggling mites concentrated on...

    Extractor basket

We recently bought an old E H Taylor manual extractor among lots of other bits. The extractor basket is a bit manky... the plastic covering the cage has perished in many places showing rusty metal beneath. Would anyone know where we might get a replacement? Size is 365x165x240 (2 frame)...

How soon should I see brood in a hived swarm?

I just posted similar question in Beginners section - I hived a swarm (or cast) 18 days ago and last night observed plenty or drawn comb, pollen, nectar and capped honey but not a single egg! Queen was seen on last frame so we know she's home. How much longer?

When will my Queen start laying?

Hi, I caught my first swarm (or cast) and hived it in a British National brood box 18 days ago on new frames with foundation only - no drawn comb. I fed 1:1 syrup and observed Bees coming in with Pollen after a few days. Last nights inspection showed plenty of comb being drawn (6 frames), some...

Getting a head start in 2015?

Thanks Cazza. He was most helpful and I should be picking up my Nuc on Monday :- ) Typically, I just caught a swarm in neighbours garden which I'll install this evening. Hopefully it'll be a great start to my beekeeping.

Getting a head start in 2015?

Am looking for Bees please Dishmop. A nuc or Hive + Bees or perhaps a swarm to get us started. I got a message from Canary Honey last Autumn that mentioned your name as you might be able to help? Any advice appreciated.

Getting a head start in 2015?

Ready for Bees Thank you for all the great advice on this thread - I've been away for a while as we were slowed down by some resistance from neighbours (Drayton, Norwich NR8) which has now been overcome :-) We've prepared a small apiary and are finally ready for our first Bees - a bit later...

Getting a head start in 2015?

I haven't logged in for a while and am flattered by all the wonderful advice from this forum. Thank you. It seems the consensus is to be patient. Despite having got excited by recent advertisements from retiring keepers selling hives, bees and gear (potential problems all round) we will wait and...

Getting a head start in 2015?

Hi, I'm just starting out and currently attending beginners course with practical course booked for next May. I wanted to start keeping bees this year but was strongly advised to learn and experience first! I'm desperate to crack on and concerned that ordering a Nuc now for next season might...
