    Difficult swarm

Thanks for good advice and replies I could cope with the indecision...it was the aggressiveness I was most concerned about. Anyway...main group moved on....I'm left with about two good frames of bees in the original hive. I'll check tonight for a queen. Hopefully they will settle down. G

    Difficult swarm

update.... They left the original box and about half took up residence in a swarm trap this morning....they left it again this evening!! They just can't seem to settle anywhere. The remnant decided to pick fights with my existing colonies and anyone who came too close. I have never...

    Difficult swarm

Good morning all Picked up a large swarm last night about 21.30 no issues but the property owner was adamant that they had been about for at least three days in different spots all fairly close to the spot I found them. Anyway...got them settled on stand about 22.30ish but when I opened the...

    National to Langstroth

I have Langstroth mediums. Any Nucs bought-in are invariably on national frames. I cut out the combs to the size of a Lang frame and hold in place with rubber bands. The bees attach the combs to the frames within a few days and cut the rubber bands off in a couple of weeks...usually found on...

    Mann Lake postage

:iagree: I get my langstroth med frames from Mann Lake - excellent quality but you need bulk order to make the postage charge bearable. (Also in NI)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

A chilly 5°C this morning. Cleared dead bee from entrances no sign of life in all but colony 6! As soon as I touched the hive they were out in full defensive mode. (The colony was a swarm catch from last year and have always been a little aggressive.) bee-smillie:

    Hives

Langstroth for me I started on Langstroths..all medium boxes. Positives - easy self build, box and frame commonality etc. Negatives - bit of hassle transferring bees and brood from bought-in National Nuc boxes. I also like the idea of the Rose system though.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Positive feetback Agreed Hawklord Far better to be encouraging, supportive and positive rather than find fault. If I've learnt anything from my beekeeping friends - I've learnt this.....We are a diverse range of people all preferring to do things in our own way, but we have one thing in common...
