    Extractor

Unless you have a dedicated honey room in which it can be left in situ throughout the year, when buying an extractor don't buy one that's too big to store and manhandle. I speak from experience. My bee buddy and I agreed to get an 8-frame Kosygin. He was to order it. On looking at the website he...

    Mobile bee hive….. discuss 😁

Oh come now. Surely you appreciate being given a rhubarb plant to help control your varroa.

    Was there any borage nearby?

    Runny honey/crystallisation

This year's honey from all six of my apiaries has already crystallised. As it was a record year I'm going to have to convince the customers that it's ideal for their toast.

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

All I have in my ancestry is one of **** Turpin's brothers.

    Labels

Our label was designed by a former boyfriend of my daughter. My bee buddy prints it and is able to personalise it so each apiary has its own coloured band at the bottom.

    Vaping tools

I see that Gruff is selling the Anel Fogger at a price about halfway between the Gasvap and the Instant Vap. Has anyone tried it?

    Thin to thick

I've 3.5 litres of thin syrup left over from spring feeding. Can any of you mathematical genii tell be how much sugar in need to add to it for autumn feeding.

    Dadant or Thorne Empire

So you've never actually had a dadant smoker, just a cheap lookalike. In that case the answer's obvious. Buy a dadant.

    Organic varroa treatments

I can sell you a hammer which I guarantee will kill every varroa mite you catch provided you use it correctly.

Where to find land for Bees 2024

As Eric says, go knocking on doors. You'll be surprised how many farmers will be delighted to host hives.

Is supermarket honey not real honey then?

Much of the blame for obesity must be laid at the door of Coca Cola and the like. The drink and the problem hit the US a generation or two before it hit the UK. It's conditioned children to like their drinks sweet. American beer and wine and Starbucks coffee are all much sweeter than their...

    honey price update

Size for size they both shift quite a bit. I'm happy with what they pay me. What they sell for is for them to decide.

    honey price update

I don't know. They're both on my bee buddy's side of town, so I don't shop there. Presumably enough to turn a profit.

    honey price update

I sell 340g (that's 12oz for the over-85s) jars for £7 from the door and £6 to a couple of local shops. It's up to them what they mark it up to.

    This just annoys me

Manoeuvrability and storage. A twelve frame extractor is wider and heavier.

    Getting old

That's the problem with growing old. The muscles start wasting. I'm fighting it by going to a weightlifting gym a couple of times a week. It's working. I'm finding lifting the supers much easier than I did last year. And I'm a hell of a lot older than you, and have always been slight.

    Lyson Rebate

For me, the difference is appreciable. But I'm with you on core exercises. I've started going to a local weight-lifting gym and really notice how much easier it is to lift full boxes.

    Total novice here go gentle.

I've got a screen I can sell you from my time on an allotment. There was a flow on and the bees headed straight across the nearest plot at head height, most unnerving for the plot holder, who got stung on several occasions by bees getting tangled in her hair. The screen arrived too late. She'd...
