Personally, having read a bit about beekeeping, including Roses book, though admittedly having not kept bees for a few years, i find the Rose method interesting, BUT i dont see why this method cannot be practised using National or Langstroth hives?
No, i refer to the design of the frames. I now understand, if i have grasped the point, there is the modern beekeeping design which are about 10mm higher than 'standard frames'. This means that if you mix the designs the gap between the frames on the top box and the bottom box could be less...
That would suggest that mixing is a bad idea, and therefore, if Modern Beekeeping are the only ones to use this design, it is better to steer clear of their frames?
That looks like the way forward. I was just confused when i learnt that there is more than one design of frame, at least according to the Modern Beekeeping site. Difference in the width of top bar, evidently.

Yes, that must be right, two widths of top bar. If the queen can't cross over, does that mean she cannot easily enter the box above (if no excluder fitted)?

This link will take you to the page on the Modern Beekeeping site. Incidentally the frames that i need to buy are for Langstroth brood ....i know what size is needed......its just the design, and if you read the above...
I am planning to buy some LS frames. Looking at the Modern Beekeeping site, I note that they say some beekeepers prefer not to mix the Modern Beekeeping LS frames with other types of LS frame. Until I read this I thought an LS was an LS, but obviously not! Can anyone enlighten a novice?
I am afraid that may not suit you, but I would not go into business until I absolutely had to.
At present, in no way could HMRC contend that you are in business because. After all you have yet to recoup your initial outlay. HMRC are only interested in getting tax off people . You dont owe any...
Have recentky acquired some poly hives. I know that many advocate masonry paint, but I was wondering whether anyone could suggest a suitable opaque fencing paint to do the job almost as well ,and which could be sprayed on?
Cows are curious animals. Your experience is typical. After they become bored with watching, they will probably disperse. Sheep,on theother hand will stay away, unless they think you are about to feed them. They are greedier than cows in my experiece.
