    High Nosema

I suppose you have a good point there, ' If your bees aren't dying of nosema every winter, regardless of your test results why worry over much? not really thought of it that way, just thought of it as a disease that needs treating. I suppose Nozevit may be just like the thymol and essential oils...

    High Nosema

Am going to try using Nozevit a product developed in Croatia which seems to be backed up with promising reviews. Fed thymol in the past which is very good at keeping syrup mould free but seem to be getting the same results year after year when testing. Have access to an apimelter and read about...

    High Nosema

Thanks for this Ian123. It does seem very persistent. When tested they returned a very high spore count although they aren't displaying any symptoms.

    High Nosema

If a hive has tested as high nosema how long do the spores stay active on the comb? Will I need to destroy the comb in the supers?

    Very dark honey

Thanks for the reply, the honey has the taste you describe, not thought of honeydew, something to consider. Expecting a balsam flow but not many balsam bees about.

    Very dark honey

Been keeping bees for a number of years now and have never had honey as dark as I've had this year. Do you think the recent heat wave is having an effect on the forage in my area. The dark honey has come from 3 of my apiarys.

    Nosema

Thanks for the replies. An article I have read suggests that it could be related to genetics and by introducing a new genetic blood line should improve the overall resistance to nosema. Another suggestion I have had is to destroy the colony - very reluctant to do that.

    Nosema

I have been set the task of managing an apiary this year and have situation that I didn't think at all about dealing with. We have been testing for disease and Nosema is present in a number of hives at high levels. My question is what do I do? The bees look healthy, no crawling bees in front of...

    Suspect Queenless

About 3 weeks and have had 2 frames of eggs and still no QC. Lots of bees but no brood. We have had bad weather for a number of days just seems too long without any evidence of a queen. Have a nuc I could combine them with but wanted to make sure there wasn't a queen lurking somewhere all...

Why would a queenless hive not build queen cells when given a frame of eggs?
