    Weather Stations

Does anyone use a weather station at their out apiary. If so any recommendations ? Obviously there is no WiFi at my out apiary so would need to connect to 4G. Is there such a thing ?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Enough space in the middle for another national if needed. Although that's not the intention. But yes a nucleus hive would fit easily, the main frame rails are wide enough for brood frames to rest between during inspections.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

One of 2 stands I’m making. I’m moving my garden hives to an out apiary after 5 years in the garden. This stand almost done. A couple of braces required for the legs. I don’t think this will collapse.

    Mineral Oils

Morning all, My mentor has for over 40 years, been coating the inside of his hives with a quality mineral based machine oil, thinned with white spirit. He also coats the outside every few years with Creosote, then lets them air for a couple of weeks before putting them back into service. I've...

    Hello from Cotgrave, Nottingham.

Hi ianorsven I will keep an eye out for you, with regards the NBKA website I notice a lot of old or outdated info ie. dates for meetings & newsletters etc. I have sent them an email regarding this but as yet received no reply. Have you been to any meetings yet or visited the apiaries ?

    Thorne Hives

No, doesn't have to be a Thorne, it was just one of the makers I looked at & I liked the fact that they look well made/good quality & not too far away from me, so I could visit them, look around & pick up what I needed. Where are ******** situated ? itma, I am aware of the different sizes...

    Thorne Hives

How did a question on mouse guards turn up in a thread about Thorne winter sales. People are answering too. :ot:

    Thorne Hives

Many thanks. I'll keep an eye on the website then. It would be the Lincs one I'll visit.

    Thorne Hives

I'm looking at buying a Thorne WBC sometime soon & I am led to believe that they have a winter sale, so that might be a good time to pay them a visit. Question is, does anyone know when this sale is likely to be ?

    Suit or Smock

    Suit or Smock

Mine also from Sherriff, suit £120, gloves £20 + VAT + postage. I understand that suits will not stop me from being stung but do give a little more protection, up your shirt and down the bike park etc Purchased it more for keeping sticky stuff off me diesels ;-) Maybe the gloves might be too...

    Suit or Smock

I am following this thread because I'm a new member and a potential new beekeeper, so it is interesting to see what is best to use. Most, if not all the advice I have read about suits is that, especially for new beekeepers, is to wear a full suit. Until they are used to handling bees and hives...

    Suit or Smock

Just purchased my first suit and leather gloves from sherriff's, suit has the fencing type veil Not cheap but recommended by my now mentor, said he's had his for about 7 years and would recommend them highly, and he's in his 40th year of beekeeping, thats good enough for me.

As I mean to go on...

Same as. Welcome Duncan. Been here a few days now but looking forward to next year. I have made contact with a local (about 100yds from my house) BK, so hoping he may be able to let me help him with his hives/bees. ;-)
