    F0 Breeder Queen

F0 doesn't exist it's P. As soon as you ask for a f0 they know you are a b**end. Suppliers can't be responsible for the ****** mail service. I have paid for next day delivery many times and it hasn't happened mainly due to the postal service. The supplier cannot help this. That's why the post is...

    'Painted' drones ?

My mate likes to paint drones at the hives at the training apiary. so much so that I bought 20 pens in different colours. it seems every colony now has 6 queens all marked in different colours according to the beginners. it's fun to see them move around.

Where to put the entrance hole in a nuc-box?

Correx nucs have the entrance in the side. The brood boxes I have split in half have it in the side. Not sure about the long side as my boxes are square. :) I think you care more about where the entrance goes than the bees will. They never seem bothered where it is.

    Cloudy Honey Problem

37c isn't warm enough 50c is ok it can be at that temp for a short while, 60c for 45mins/hour is what the BBKA recommends for shelf life. The hotter it gets the faster it's ruined.

Can you use aluminium material when processing honey?

Ideally no, honey is an acidic food and aluminium isn't great with acidic foods.

    Warre - feeding dilemma

If the hive is very light then it begs the question what have they done with the stores being frugal bees, last year was a great year for honey. If no honey was taken then they should have filled the hive and had more than enough to last the winter. The late honey flow continued for quite some...

    Surprising dead-out

Seems to be a lot of drones in the pictures for a winter dead out.

    Warre - feeding dilemma

If I don't feed them they will die. If I do feed them they will live. That's not even a question in my mind.

"The more woody the plant, the darker the honey"

Although the plant itself has an effect on the colour of honey the trace metals in the soil also have an effect on it too.

Cold torpor - how long until terminal ?

30 mins in a freezer normally does it but if it's a jar with a ball of bees some of them survive, where a single bee does not. If they can cluster then -15 isn't much to deal with for a short period if they have a full stomach.

    Irish bees under threat again

It's always been the same with some groups. You can import bees but they have to be AMM. AMM imports are excluded from the spread of pests/diseases. Somehow imported AMM are actually native too?????? I was talking to a bee supplier in the UK, their biggest customer for European AMM queens is...
