Just collected a swarm in Leics

I used to keep bees but my Jack Russell hated them so I don't have any kit. I collected a swarm earlier today from a friends garage wall as he was freaking out and they are boxed up (obviously don't know if there is a Queen). What to do? thanks Neil

    Queen excluded - not!

Supersedeure worked and I clearly have a frighteningly fertile new Q in residence. The only problem is she has found her way in to the supers through the previously Queen proof plastic excluder. Each of the 3 supers now has uncapped brood plus lots of honey. Would the best thing now be to take...

    Collected own swarm Leics

Thanks for the replies. I have given the swarm away for free and I'll just have to take my chances that all might be well in the hive. kind regards Neil

    Collected own swarm Leics

This is my second year - single hive in the garden. I have no kit to do anything with the swarm - it's just in a box. My wife doesn't want any more hives. What are my options? Thanks

    Collected own swarm Leics

South of Leicester got a call from neighbour earlier that our single hive was swarming. I've just collected it waiting for the stragglers to go in. If you want to collect and give me a few quid for the effort (and stings as I stupidly didn't kit up properly) let me know.

Unmarked wing clipped - just appeared!

I found the mystery Q. Resident Q not seen yesterday but last week had red spot - are these two the same? Marked Q photo is from July 2013 and looked much the same last Sunday when I inspected the hive. Unmarked Q from today (clearly also left wing clipped) . The black bands look wider on...

Unmarked wing clipped - just appeared!

Thanks everyone. I'd feel happier understanding what's going on if it had been the known marked Queen. I'll rig up something temporary and look again tomorrow.

Unmarked wing clipped - just appeared!

Thanks. I would have thought the same had I not seen mine last week with the bold red mark she's had since last June (the red in the box in the pic is a bit of card). I handled this mystery Queen earlier and she is totally unmarked but left wing clipped. Main thing now is what to do with these...

Unmarked wing clipped - just appeared!

It's now 18:15 and this is what I've got. The mystery Queen is in there somewhere. I don't know how many bees there are but it doesn't look like a full swarm. I don't have anything to put them in so any suggestions what to do with her/them. My only hive about 4 meters away has settled down now.

Unmarked wing clipped - just appeared!

Having tidied the hive up a week ago and hoping for a swarmless Easter the bees were definitely swarming at 14:45 today. I went straight down and found a few workers and drones clustering on the lawn about 2m from the hive. I soon realized they were round a Queen but shock and horror it was an...

    What's going on?

Thanks. It was tight a few weeks back but 2 supers on since so plenty of room. Resident Queen is wing clipped (she's less than a year old) - should I do anything?

    What's going on?

Thanks. The only Queen cells I could find are the ones in the pic. What is the array of cells in this pic please?

    What's going on?

My first spring after installing a package last June. Hive very healthy, mites controlled etc. I opened up on Friday and saw this. What am I seeing and what should I do please?

    New from Leics

Inspected again today and I'm pleased to report that what we saw last week was indeed capped honey and what we have now is loads of capped and uncapped brood. Queen is laying like mad. Two supers ready to go but this deep 12 frame commercial brood box is capacious (16"x10").

    New from Leics

First inspection to make sure her majesty is in residence .... she is. Huge amount of drawn comb and capped honey but not experienced enough yet to spot any eggs (9 days after queen release).
