    Setting honey

I extracted about 30lbs of honey last week and left it to settle. Just tried to pour it into jars but it has started to set already. Should it set this quick or does it depend on what the Bees have been feeding on?. This is the first time I've done this so any advice appreciated.

    Combining a swarm

I've just collected a reasonably sized swarm and at the moment it's housed in a Nuc but as there's little space they might swarm again. I would like to combine it with a weaker colony that has a new laying queen. What should I do...combine with both queens and let them fight it out...remove the...

Tiny mites on the varroa tray

Queen is still there and yes I would want to increase..so I reckon an AS is called for, although I'm going to double check that they are swarm cells and not supersedure cells. (Been doing some research!)

How do I identify a charged Queen cell?

I've just found three Queen cells on two frames today, they are not capped but seem to have larvae in the bottom of the cells. I don't think this can be called a charged cell..or is it?. This is a relatively new colony that I bought as a Nuc about a month ago an at the moment it has about 5...

    Bamboo queen excluder

I've just bought a national hive that has a queen excluder made from bamboo on a pine frame. There doesn't seem to be much Bee space either side. Any thoughts, should I replace it with a metal one or not bother

    Buying Bees

As a novice Wanting to get started I'm trying to source bees. At the moment it seems as though there are very few available and I might be able get a Nuc late June / mid July at the earliest. Is this too late to try and start a colony off and should I wait until next year...don't really want to...
