    Price of Honey

I have been quoted £3.40 for a half pound jar, which is there wholesale price. With a recommended retail price of £4.75, that would make it £9.50 a lb! Which i think is a bit steep, and would never sell in my shop.

farm grade disinfectants and red mite attack

I know they are expensive, and dangerous. That is why you cannot use most treatments when the birds are housed. I also need to be sure that it will work, I only get 2 weeks to clean out 12,000 birds. There are plenty of products that work well, it is trial and error. I have never had success...

farm grade disinfectants and red mite attack

Farm disinfectants will only work against red mite if they can dissolve wax. Red mite have a waxy coating that can be dissolved with detergents to dehydrate them. Poultry shield is the most popular and most effective of the detergent options, although it is just fairy liquid in a posh bottle...

    Rabbit Control

You need some birds of prey, last week I counted 14 red kites and 5 buzzards. They seem to be eating everything in sight, they even pin my chickens to the floor and eat them alive. I haven't seen a rabbit for a couple of years.

    Harmless insecticide??

the quote on their website reads: "Our trained pest controllers, upon request, will operate using a non harmful method to remove the bees or a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide to eliminate the infestation. " To me this reads that they use 2 methods of removing bees, the choice of which method...

    Artificial Swarm

I did an inspection today and there where Queen cells, so I started looking for the queen so I could do an artificial swarm. I have never seen the queen in this hive, all I know is that she is there and laying well and eggs are present. After 2 hours I still hadn't found her. I wasn't...

    Spraying

Who ever farms the ground still has to work it as would the landowner if they were doing it themselves, so I don't see how that makes a difference. Stewardship schemes are not compolsory and if you don't claim the subsidy then the cross compliance isn't either. What were you hoping to get out...
