What did you do in the Apiary today?

I'm not on the WSBKA committee, just the Chichester one but I'll try to get it added as an agenda item if this year is equally long and tedious.....

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Freezing here too unless the sun briefly peeps out. Painting nucs indoors. OH is away!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

My queen from @Black Mountain Honey arrived promptly this morning so she’s gone into a three frame nuc (weather set to be cold overnight for several days so used one of the BS nucs that you can split in half and stuffed the empty side with sheep’s wool). One frame of stores, one frame of a mix...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

We’re always at capacity! I’m just hoping they have grouped some of the small stuff together this time as it dragged on somewhat last year. As I took over the ‘showing’ half way through, it was a bit tedious to say the least!

God I love growing our own

Gosh, I don’t miss Fareham clay although we’ve got Bracklesham clay instead which is greyish and after a storm & with a very low tide, you can see big flat boulders of it in the sea which people like to dig through searching for fossilised sharks teeth.

God I love growing our own

I always save some wood ash from the log burner to scatter, slugs etc don’t seem to like it much.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Funny I was just reading an old post when you had said exactly that! Queen arrives tomorrow, and it’s supposed to be dry and sunny so that’s the plan.

Nucleus Method - not in BBKA book

Its the least complicated and have always found it to work really well.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Well, I was going to do some inspections and make up a nuc ready for my new queen arriving tomorrow but as I type, the rain is lashing down and it's blowing an absolute hooley :hairpull:

Ooh, hope to see you there and maybe snag one of your nucs…,,

I used to work with ‘merkins, the expression drove me nuts.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

That is true. I didn’t expect a huge hive of bees but I think if I offered someone a colony surplus to requirements, I would be too embarrassed to give this away!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Indeed but as this came out of an overwintered hive, I’m really surprised at how small they are.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Ummm, I’m probably bunging up the queen laying space with syrup I’m guessing from your question…… :banghead:

What did you do in the Apiary today?

So, as I’d lost hives over winter, a friend who wanted to downsize, offered me a colony for free. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I collected a nuc and some drawn frames from them a couple of days ago. Left them to settle in & reorientate themselves and checked on them this afternoon...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Still way cheaper than this option! I can make 3 lots for the price of this….
