    Beekeeping reflections

I’ll check, just checked and you are correct! As the feeder is only used temporarily, an 8 mil shim to raise the ‘ rest’ point on the out side should suffice .

This Covid lock down has affected my old brain . I actually bought a maisemore .

    Beekeeping reflections

I’ve kept bees for over 30 years without resorting to poly . The plastics problem has figured in my thinking ! Having said that , I’ve invested in a Payne’s 14/12 nuc with feeder . It will be put to use next spring . Then I will make my appraisal. Wax moth larvae damage , wasp damage etc have...

Advice on setting up a bee shed?

I once read a booklet on bee houses . Here are some of the tips I remember . A ‘ lantern skylight in the roof as a bee escape . A caution, that bees from a bee house leave the hive entrances and fly horizontally for about thirty feet . If you place a barrier about 6 feet in front of the bee...

    Beekeeping reflections

Why not? If you’re a strong lad and can handle full sized boxes as supers . They are heavy , the weight difference between poly and cedar isn’t enough to make much difference to the full super weight .

    Hive Security

The old skepists were on the ball . They knew to a few hours when a skep was due to swarm and would sit in the apiary in anticipation . On a parallel with the old one mile pigeon fliers . The difference between winning and losing a race was split seconds therefore your bird had to be in peak...

    They won't take it down!

I’m oop North . My bees are mongrels and working their socks off . There’s even Sheltered stands of Balsam . Ivy is in full flow . Must admit less and less of the returning foragers resemble home pride graded grain sifters .

    They won't take it down!

Maybe place the super above the crown board with feed hole open . They’ll probably remove its contents as and when ! ?

    Illegal vaping and new laws

Be careful how you answer . 😀😀😀 I think it was questioning the interpretation of the VMD s take on the use of OA vaping . The answer as I see is . Yes providing the supplier is on the approved list !

    Illegal vaping and new laws

Corvid includes rooks, Ravens and magpies et al . Sarcasm is unbecoming of a moderator and a bad example to the moderated .

    Illegal vaping and new laws

Mhh! Joining in a discussion on a thread about oxalic acid vaping and turning it into a discussion on Corvid19 and the education system hardly helps the author? Practicing what one preaches springs to mind .

Has anyone done comparisons, regarding increased benefits to their own colonies ?

    Bees not taking down invertbee

The bees invert sugar syrup! Why pay through the nose for inverted ?

    Illegal vaping and new laws

Illegal? There are vap shops on every high street !

    Found a swarm

I should leave them alone ! You know where they are . They’ll be stocking up on Ivy and sheltered stands of Balsam . Spring time is the better time , if at all !

    Hive Security

Drill a hole in each hive floor . Stick a bung in each hole tethered to the hive stand! As they make off with a hive , the bung will stay behind and the thieves will be surrounded by angry bees . Hopefully when in their vehicle !
