    Stoneleigh tomorrow.

Got there a bang on Nine, Thornes queue was rediculous, stretched almost to the entrance at one point. Didnt need anything from their sale, so spent the time looking at other stands while people fought it out in the Thornes scrum. ended up picking up a few bits and pieces, and enjoyed having a...

    Novice question

This wasnt one of the two reps at Stoneleigh by any chance was it?....I hung about next to their stand and listened to some of the advice and comments. I have to say they made it sound very fluffy and people friendly, not to mention simple, I asked what is going to happen when these...

    Amm

I think you've answered yourself there....they are VERY sought after and the limited amounts being produced, despite thier sometimes extortionate prices are being snapped up. I also have Amm from Bickerstaffes and as PH says they have been out and at their business, when other lighter coloured...

    Thorne's sale

By one persons I mean, the people you were buying for weren't there were they?.....as stated earlier, maybe associations should approach thornes directly instead of sending one or two representatives to buy in bulk. It makes a bit of a mockery of the people who could be bothered to travel and...

    Oh dear.....

Hahahaha like them or loathe them, I'll guess theres more than a few people that wish they'd thought of the eglu!!!. I quite like the Eglu cube and must admit I wouldnt mind having one down at the allotment. It'll use National brood and super frames I'll bet (the eglu hive that is!!) or rather...

    Where to buy?

As PH said try Bickerstaffes, you also have the option of going for a A.m.m. from him too. Not bad pricing either, £17.95 delivered to your door

I think my nuc is unwell

Sorry but for the price he charged there should be a nice big fat healthy queen newly mated and MARKED if wanted, along with 3-4 frames of brood of all stages along with a frame of stores, and a good amount of bees. Even if you do find the queen eventually, I'd have no hesitation in returning...

Bickerstaffes queen bees AMM x 2

True enough, but beats waiting for Bibba to sort itself out for the time being!! ;) If you find any Native Amm, let me know...I'd be VERY interested in them myself

Bickerstaffes queen bees AMM x 2

Nice one PH :).....I'm very pleased with the three that I got off him, they've settled down well and are now surrounded by their offspring. As soon as I can be sure they are all Amm will be intresting to see what the wing morphometry is like. I've already taken a few larvea off one of them and...

This section needs a kick !!

I'm a lapsed BIBBA member, got fed up with them spending years trying to ducument where about they could be certain Amm were, when a lot of Scottish beekeepers got fed up with telling them. Then seemingly very little going on on the way of increasing the numbers of them  I'm thinking...

    Price check Fondant

PH I feed it in large pieces placed in margarine tubs(1Kg ones), with a 1.5 - 2 inch hole in the lid, turned upside down over the brood frames in winter inside a super with 4 or so frames removed, directly over the cluster of bees. can be used the same way anytime of year. I've found its helpful...

    Queen excluder.

I use wire framed and the orange plastic ones, the thing with the plastic ones is to just place your hand in the middle of the excluder as you lift one corner to stop it springing up...simple!!!. I've also found them a hell of a lot more robust than the flat steel excluders when it comes to...

    do I re-queen or combine?

If it was me I'd find and get rid of the two queens in the drone laying colonies, combine them and later add the frame containing the queen cell from your good colony. How long has the queen cell been capped though?, your good colony may swarm if it hasnt already by the time you get round to...

calling all beekeepers with years of experience!!

Bees are no different to any other organism on the planet, they are driven to survive and reproduce. Thats all we and every other organism is here for. Wether the reasons are obvious to us or not the bees are basically satisfying a biological need to either survive or reproduce. Maybe there is a...

    Thorne's sale

Glad I went, got in the queue at 8:45, was a nice morning after a three hour drive from Liverpool with my Dad about 9:10 people were allowed in and the fun began....there were pallet loads of stuff, certainly no shortage!! only snag was people were collecting piles of stuff and leaving...

    Thorne's sale

Same here Jim, but needs must...I cant believe how quickly I've increased my stocks, I'm now on 8 colonies and running out of equipment RAPIDLY!!...not a situation I envisaged a couple of months back I can tell you :)

    Thorne's sale

I'm hoping to go, but am wondering if there will be enough sale priced frames and hive parts to make it worthwhile. Dont fancy travelling there and getting in at five past nine only to discover all the frames and hive parts have gone already!!!
