    Intensity of bee venom

Thats an interesting point, the study I was reading last night also seemed to suggest participants were not discouraged from field exposure

    Intensity of bee venom

Thanks BIAB I have an amazing GP that I feel totally confident in approaching and she has been a constant source of support and help. The allergy consultant at the hospital was more clinical and seemed to want to shut me down as soon as I tried to point towards other NHS trusts that don't make...

    Intensity of bee venom

The first letter I received was a copy of the one sent to my GP outlining what had been discussed at my appointment and the tests they had done that day. It stated within the letter that I had been told they would offer me immunotherapy if I agreed to get rid of my bees. The letter I received...

Yes, that is the same suit I have. Why will they not refer her?? Because they keep bees or some other reason?

    Intensity of bee venom

I certainly wouldn't wish it on anyone. I don't mind updating on the immunotherapy though once it starts, maybe my experience can help someone else :) In the meantime I have my sentinel pro gear, my epipens and my long suffering, commendable husband!

    Intensity of bee venom

I did mention this at the first appointment, and even pointed to a bbc news article which commended the NHS for enabling beekeepers with allergies to continue, but was very politely told those were the conditions. I don't know if it is that particular NHS trust, or that particular allergy...

    Intensity of bee venom

You mean just tell them i have given it up to tick a box? That's something we did talk about, and it's my preferred choice (my husband is supportive but concerned so, he's on the fence) By sheer coincidence , I have just received a letter from the hospital this morning confirming the allergy and...

    Intensity of bee venom

I'm currently seeing an NHS allergy consultant, but didnt get the appointment until March. I was given a scratch test for both wasp and bee venom with negative reactions to both, but was told this doesn't mean much (in hindsight I wondered why they'd bothered doing that test if that's the case?)...

    Intensity of bee venom

I mentioned earlier this year that after suffering no more than the usual localised itch after stings for years, in January I was stung once on my fingertip and in less than 2 minutes I was unconscious in full anaphylaxic shock. Luckily someone was there to call an ambulance and I spent 2 days...

    Question on stings

Thanks, I'll keep this thread updated if I can, maybe it can be of some use or help to other people in a similar situation. I'm hoping a course of desensitisation treatment might be a small step in the right direction initially but don't have my first appointment at the allergy clinic through yet.

    Question on stings

After beekeeping for the last couple of years, I've received my share of stings and never had much of a reaction, even when I've had 2 or 3 in one go. Last week, my worse nightmare happened. One sting on my fingertip resulted in immediate anaphylaxic shock. Within seconds I was unconscious and...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I went out yesterday (NYE) and was greeted by 100s of bees too. The balmy 15c had got them all excited, I didn't have the heart to tell them it's forecast frost on Tuesday.
