    Unseasonal behaviour

Yes we've used them for a few years now and wouldn't want to be without them, they're brilliant!

    Unseasonal behaviour

One of our outdoor tomatoes decided to start flowering again last week and a tub of dahlias has some new buds on it

Bee poo on house windows and cars

That's so sad and in some ways very lazy. There's surely other ways to deal with nuisance birds without hacking down rows of trees :(

Bee poo on house windows and cars

I wonder how many people launch statutory nuisance complaints against birds pooing on their cars and windows... and whether their solution would be to cut down all the nearby trees and hedges with nests in them 🤔😅

    Maisemores end of season sale

Don't come for me, i don't work for any of these companies, all I did was comment on a deal I'd seen 😂

    Maisemores end of season sale

The offer was only on for 24 hours yesterday so I'd guess that's a updating issue on the website if the screenshots are from today perhaps?

    Maisemores end of season sale

I think we all have our own experiences with 2nds... and I can't speak for anyone else of course. We've had 7 of them this year and they've all been pretty decent 2nds, better quality than the 2nds We've had from Thornes this year (the finish on the Thornes 2nds looked like shredded cheese and...

    Maisemores end of season sale

Bee Equipment have 24 hour offers on this week and today's is National cedar supers for £14 (2nds I'm assuming, but I usually buy 2nds anyway!)

    Instruction manual for extractor

We also have one of these (no hard copy of Instructions were ever provided, we just watched their video!) I'm not a fan as we use langstroth mostly and whether it's just this particular extractor that wasn't manufactured well or the actual design, one side catches on the lugs and prevents it...

    hello folks

We were in a similar situation post swarm back in May with one of our hives. It was 3 weeks before we confidently said they had a queen and another 3 weeks after that before we were confident we had eggs, so 6 weeks in total.

    Swarm in reverse....

🤣 they're certainly more predictable than the weatherman! I've seen them hurry back before the rain plenty of times before which I also love watching, I'd just never seen them doing it with such intensity! It was like the first few minutes of the Boxing Day sales 😂

    Swarm in reverse....

It wasn't raining at the time and although it did rain shortly afterwards, it was nothing more than a summer shower which didn't last long. I did think it was possibly weather related once I'd realised they weren't swarming, but I've never seen a colony do that, even in the worst sudden...

    Swarm in reverse....

No dead bees at all. I've seen some massive orientation flights but this was something different... the bees were facing the hive as though orientating but in addition, this massive flood into the hive. It was so intense it was like watching a waterfall of bees cascading off the landing board...

    Swarm in reverse....

22c , overcast, scattered showers. About half an hour ago I glanced out of the kitchen window and noticed A LOT of airborne bees around one of hives (a big colony this year despite swarming back in May). Oh great, I thought, they're swarming. Then I realised they weren't settling anywhere and it...

    honey price update

Yes, sorry, I wasn't insinuating it was the origin making it tasteless, rather that it was potentially more sugar syrup than honey. That's the only reason I can imagine its so tasteless!

    Extractor questions.

Just doing a little '22 research on extractors and spat out my drink reading this! I feel like I've definitely had enough after extracting a couple of supers with my little 2 frame manual 😅 How many hives were you running that year?

    honey price update

I noticed 340g jars of honey for 79p in Aldi so bought one out of curiosity to taste test. On the label it states it's mixed European honey and it was compleeeetely tasteless 😶

Looking for a new site for 2 of our hives in or around Warrington

Thanks Ian, i don't know why I didn't think of that! I posted in a group for the next parish along to ours last night and have already got 2 possible sites lined up to go and look at this week :)

Looking for a new site for 2 of our hives in or around Warrington

Hi everyone, I hope I've posted this in an appropriate section... We need to resite 2 hives that are currently in our garden (Warrington, Cheshire) until further notice. We had a back up plan but after contacting the person who had the available land, she's got back to us to say she's let...
