Polyhive OMF leave inspection tray in or partial for winter?

Hi Everyone, I have an Abelo poly hive with open mesh floor. What’s the best advice regarding the inspection tray for overwintering bees? (1) Kept fully in (creating a closed floor)? (2) Partially open (1/4 to 1/2 to allow airflow (3) Fully out and let the bees sort out themselves ? Any...

OA sublimation into the hive or under the open mesh floor ?

Hi, I had a few poly hives, was wondering what would be a safer way to OA Vapor the hive ? I’d be using a pan type 12v tool, would it be easier to place under the mesh floor and allow the gas to flow upwards through the open mesh or close the floor off and put it thorough the entrance ? I...

    Requeening end of September

I agree with you , just just thinking out aloud of my options when I don’t see any later on this month, that is all. Plenty of ivy pollen being brought in, and I’m also feeding invertebee syrup in the top feeder.

All I’ve done is check the queen has been accepted whilst removing the cage. Not what I’d call fiddling, couldn’t see any eggs on the side of a frame that held the cage.

    Requeening end of September

Hi Everyone, I’ve introduced the newly mated queen into the hive on September 26th, she’s been accepted (checked her yesterday) Can’t see any signs of eggs, but I assume she will lay in the next week or so? If so would it be too late for her to build up enough capped brood to cover winter...

That’s fine , thank you for sharing what hives you have 🤗. Quick question for you for next year - When the hives expand, and it’s time to split them into new hives, would you Let the queenless hive virgin/open mate , or buy in a mated Queen for the queenless hive ? Which provides better...

    Requeening end of September

Earlier today the tab on the queen cage was removed. I noticed that the capped brood has now hatched, and hardly any open stores of nectar /pollen, just capped honey on the top of the frames and corners . It’s almost is if the capped brood has hatched and all the stores have been used up whilst...
