    Beekeeping cars

Ours were 2018 and older, when I left in 2021. Basic spec was very good- some had heated seats, nav, Bluetooth etc as standard. Get some steel wheels and AWD tires on it, and I think you'll be very pleased.

    Beekeeping cars

We ran three at the chalet company I worked for in France. Excellent cars, 4wd very capable- I drove one for approximately 3ks up a piste at night once.. Pretty tough, they coped with loads of staff, with varying levels of mechanical sympathy, and never went wrong. One coped remarkably well...

God I love growing our own

I know- in this instance, everything else they've eaten is worse for them (and me!)

God I love growing our own

I've made a cock-up. Having mowed around my wife's no-dig beds (brownie points, I thought), I left the gate open. And my flock of Hebridean sheep helped themselves to everything. And the poly tunnel. Now, I'm not especially green-fingered, so any tips on how to rescue what's left would be...

    Feeding Foundationless Colony

Don't think so- I had them dummied down to five frames in the BB, and foolishly opened them out rather than forced them to draw the remaining thirds of the frames.

    Feeding Foundationless Colony

I've done that- they carried on regardless!

    Feeding Foundationless Colony

A question for the foundationless afficionados. I've taken a foray into the world of foundationless this summer, hiving two swarms on foundationless frames, mixed with a few drawn frames to keep them straight. Two queries! - One hive is reluctant to draw the right hand panels on all the...

    busy swarm season

Weather (and consequently the number of swarms) has been the same here in South Oxfordshire.

Is it time to remove Entrance Block

Off topic a bit, but would be fascinated to hear more about your time in Lesotho - did you ever write a thread on it? I spent a year delivering an agricultural aid program in the North. Fantastic country, fantastic people.

Swarms not as plentiful this year

Things have been sparse here to, South Oxfordshire.

Swarms not as plentiful this year

Very frustrating, as it's the first call I've had this season that didn't involve extracting from a building in some way! A few nice easy swarms are all I ask, then I'd be happy to go back to peeling cladding off buildings! Still, 2 traps were showing a lot of activity this afternoon, so...

Swarms not as plentiful this year

Spectacular prime swarm boxed up this morning. Torn 50/50 between taking what I'd got, and waiting for any returning foragers/scouts, I left it. Just had a message to say they'd up and left. Bugger.

Swarms not as plentiful this year

Although, having said that, there's no comb in this particular trap, so nothing to store pollen in.. 🤔

Swarms not as plentiful this year

Things are finally looking promising here! No sign of any pollen being brought in, so probably just scouts, but thrilled to finally have some interest!!

Full sun, or not full sun- that is the question!

Hi all, After some advice, as the web, books and mentors all contradict each other! Siting hives in full sun- yay or nay? Located South Oxfordshire. They'd be unshaded all year, which I suppose is a boon in midwinter? Excellent wind protection, so not concerned about that. Any thoughts...

Swarms not as plentiful this year

None in any of my traps yet, nor any calls, much to my annoyance. I know a guy had a swarm from his hives on our neighbours OSR, and the 4 wild colonies I know of seem very active, so I'm still hopeful..

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

Same here in South Oxfordshire- more activity yesterday, but torrential rain this morning, and thunderstorms forecast for later on!

First swarm call of the year.

No such activity round me (South Oxfordshire) This weather is driving me potty!

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

Some scout activity this afternoon at one of my bait hives- this is set to catch swarms from two very large wild colonies in some dormers on a house in the village. 🤞

    feb cut out

I'm thinking that as there won't be a void where the nest was, that any residue I can't get will be cleared up/weathered away, by the time the new roofing is installed. That's the plan, anyway..
