    Re'invent the wheel

OSBs have 12 frames and match a national footprint perfectly. Must be the internal dimensions

SWARM REPORT... hows it goimg in your area

    Absolutely!

    Eeeek...starvation

I wouldn't expect everything to be calm two hours later if they were being robbed....? Mine often go on mass orientations after a day or two without sun. The flights are stunning to watch - huge buzzing and lots of activity (and I still think uh-oh, did I miss a QC?). A mass of bees fly in...

    Very chalk broody

I don't think you need to worry about chalk brood - that looks like pollen pellets... On the other hand, if it is chalk brood, is there any brood left in the hive?!

    Comb on comb?

I agree. I tried a different supplier last year, tempted by a bigger discount, (pay cheaper, pay twice!) and the proportion of foundations that were chewed, drawn "beside", bridged across to the next frame etc., was nuts. At least a couple of dozen went straight back through the solar extractor.

    and possibly bring in disease.....

    Gloves

If you have a Lidl near you, their gloves are a marigold type and keep most stings out. At 99p for 2 pairs they are cheap enough to keep a pair for each apiary and, handily, come in different colours for instant identification. Like Marigolds, they can be washed in soda solution. The only...

    Cracked foundation

Yes, I've had that issue, but if you treat the wax gently til you put it on the hives, the bees will do the necessary repairs.

    Neighbours show true colours

Not surprising, then, with so many people declaring entrenched views - without even considering entering a discussion - that things like Wednesday happen. sad face (I couldn't find a ready made one)

I'm not quite sure I follow, but if you're saying you are going to move the parent colony with the queen to a new site and then, at some later date, move the artificial swarm to a new location, I'm not sure what the point of that is. If you really want the flyers to go to other...

    modified wally

The theory behind this method is that because the artificial swarm (on the original) site has to go through the process of raising (emergency) QCs, the swarming instinct is satisfied - they have done their queen rearing and accept the old queen back again. It's recommended that the emergency...

    Good news -- anybody?

Don't be disheartened before you start. Here's my tuppence worth: Yes it's a hobby with challenges and learning - the curve is steep to start with, and it never levels out! At least, for me it hasn't!, but isn't that the way with most things? Concentrate on recognizing what is normal in...

Too early for a shook swarm?

it gets worse...as in sterilizing frames and boxes with "hot scalding water (we need to use gloves it's that hot") then they "scorch the whole lot" and "hopefully, any AFB, EFB or other any nasties ....are gone" No mention that it is a legal requirement to notify the Disease Inspectorate of the...

Too early for a shook swarm?

You're a thinking beek, obvs. :) my concern was wider than the shook swarm. Have a look at some of the other vids... the "mentoring" - to me it's shocking.

Too early for a shook swarm?

Unfortunately, the greatest loss is likely to be perfectly good colonies of bees! I feel for the students who won't have the experience to realise that what they are being taught is inappropriate, incorrect or just a load of old tosh. With any luck, a few of them might be directed by...

    Foundationless beekeeping

I spotted the waste from your hole production line! Enterprising use of a waste product :)
