    Tachometer info

But if you're not engaged in commercial haulage, what's the problem? Every Land Rover 90 & 110 ever made falls into this category if you read the worst case scenario, but it is littered with exemptions: agriculture, horticulture, carrying equipment as you go about your main line of work, not...

    Bbka mess up again.

Yes, really made me chuckle. Thanks :D

    Bbka mess up again.

Strong words proven in court: the trustee who had been accused by us of lying contradicted his own sworn witness statement when questioned under oath, and was told by the judge that she did not accept his account of events. Another former trustee admitted under oath that BBKA funders were...

    Bbka mess up again.

The phase I was referring to was during the former regime, when trustees were moderators. I was not able to expose the corrupt affairs of the BBKA there.

    Bbka mess up again.

A bit harsh. True, the big picture at the top of every page and the bullseye logo animation in the top left are distracting, but it's already a damn site better than the old site. The joke used to be that if you didn't want a document to be read by anybody, put it on the BBKA website...

    Bbka mess up again.

Why? Some wag on FB asked how the moderators are going to chat with each other now the forum is down... The BBKA forum was killed by switching to knowingly crap software 6 years ago at the last redesign, with heavy-handed moderation just to be sure. Now they have two(!) BBKA FB pages I don't...

First mistake of 2018 -- and a big one

Surprised nobody else has picked up on this, as it seems a particular point of dismay for the OP. I doubt they were dead within seconds, rather they were chilled to the point of being immobile. Picking them up and dropping them on top bars above the cluster would probably have revived them, as...

Advice on making splits later this year

Is it all genetic swarminess or is there an aspect of congestion? The National hive is small, yet it is assumed that one brood box is sufficient, and this is the pattern of hive used across most of the UK because... well that's what people are familiar with. Indeed there is a perverse logic in...

Advice on making splits later this year

There's the ticket. Aim to get fresh drawn brood comb and strong populations on the OSR, then split when flowering finishes. If it's winter-sown OSR, the new queen will be mated comfortably before main flow.

Hybrid bees put Native Carnolians on endangered list

An unnecessary reply when the vast majority of forum members would have to pay £23 to see why you have linked to this paper.

    Snelgrove Board Mesh Hole Size

IMHO it appeals because it introduces a specific piece of swarm control equipment, and has very extensive and meticulous recipes for how it should be used, all by a well-known author. To somebody struggling to get to grips with swarming and feeling that it's all beyond them, all these specifics...

    Snelgrove Board Mesh Hole Size

In quantity, as Snelgrove described it, in eventually 5 or 6 various methods? No. Allegedly even Snelgrove himself gave up on it in the end. The underlying theory (excess brood food causes swarming, hence all the bleeding off of nurse bees) was wobbly at best. Where it worked, generally it was...

Foundationless - practical tips for starting

When I hear that bees draw comb parallel to ley lines, I think of these photos of an overwintered nuc that outgrew its space one May. Crown board was on accidentally upside down (top bee space, hence double bee space above frames) which was filled with seemingly random blobs of comb, above the...

    Mistake

I sell at a shade over £5/lb wholesale (labelled jars to retailers) and £7.20/lb retail myself, adjusted from 12oz jar prices. I don't know anyone commercial around here who sells for less than £4/lb wholesale, most are higher than that. Check out the shelf prices in shops around you, assume...

    Mistake

That's very low, even for wholesale (labelled jars to retailers).

    Roof vents or not

I've never seen this, and I see quite a few different colonies, equipment, and management styles. Not saying you didn't see it, but that it is not a common occurrence IME. Do you recall what the time of year was, the other ventilation present at floor/entrance, and the general exposure of the...

Books Passed Down To Me :D :D

Sorry to say it looks like this was a printed dedication, that or L.E. diligently signed an awful lot of copies :) Attached is a photo of two copies picked at random off the shelf here; his other books do not have either the photo or a 'signature' dedication though.
