    Stings and mean bee's

It is almost certainly your gloves, then. Surely you were told when doing your training that you shouldn't wear clothes that bees can trap their legs in, such as wool or denim? I imagine that is what is happening to your bees. Get some latex/nitriles or even Marigolds and use them instead.

    Stings and mean bee's

You will be. Probably due to your own stupid fault by not seeing a bee –-despite having checked – and crushing her as she comes around the lug. I do it regularly.

    Stings and mean bee's

If you have been attacked consistently, have you washed your jacket/suit in the meantime? It's quite possible you have some sting pheromone in the fabric and it is triggering this response each time you open up. Also, there's been quite a lot of thundery weather around and that makes them...

    How much honey to leave?

Also worth considering what honey is worth to the bees over winter. Some of us prefer not to feed them sugar. It's your call.

    A real Hornet's Nest

Yes, sorry, I saw that, but didn't want to leave a blank message.

    My first honey

And do not give it away to everyone. Your true friends will offer to buy some from you. Give them a special – not to be repeated for anyone but them ;-)-rate.

Raw Organic Honey in the UK

Useful answer, nbeek, but I'm sure I am not the only one not concerned about competition. Most of my punters want local honey and value knowing where it comes from. Some are very suspicious at first but once they know the bees are mine, become regulars. My concern is about whether it is...

Raw Organic Honey in the UK

    1) How do you know it is organic? 2) How do you know it isn't Chinese honey? 3) How do you know it isn't Chinese honey chock full of antibiotics? 4) Are you going to test for 2 and 3? I wouldn't pay a premium for 'raw' or 'organic' unless YOU cold prove it. I've been offered honey from...

    Well done to your member.

International Meeting of Young Beekeepers - IMYB

Actually, DanBee, I think there are some rather important questions that need answers not on the IMYB per se, but the reasons behind all these letters flying around. And yes, I have read all of them.

    End of season honey extraction.

I'm late this year for my first harvest, but will be taking some in th enext week. Then I wait for the brood boxes to get full and take the excess, as I don't like feeding sugar to them.* *That's my preference, not an invitation to a punch up for any who disagree with it.

    More BBKA in-fighting

If you refer to Ian Homer's response, madasafish, I am not sure I can agree. The first communiqué from executive neither clarified nor satisfied any queries, and could be seen as an indirect attack against those organising the event. It was an ill judged and ill timed missive that should...

    More BBKA in-fighting

I don't understand why the executive sent the first communication. It shows considerable lack of judgement, given they had agreed to support the project after 'crisis talks'. I don't like the way this looks and has the whiff of a witch hunt about it.

    Smoker Fuel

My favourite is lavender stalks (cut at the end of the season) and I've been using a load of dried punk this year, too, as a number of big pieces of wood had rotted down on my allotment and were really crumbly. Burns well, if a little hotter than lavender, though with less tar as lavender is...

    Gone rogue

Isn't there someone with an apiary in the middle of nowhere you could leave them while they requeen? It's OK, I've caught up with the thread, now.

DO you roll them up, Karsal, or just stuff them in?

A quote for foundation - recent experience

Do you mean "southern Ireland", Quis Custodiet? If not, where is it you are referring to? KBS wax is always superior, even to Thorne premium stuff, which they charge the extra for.

    Price

£7 a pound, but it's going up next season by at least 50p.
