Out apiary (that’s an out out apiary!)

I have one 12 miles away, which the missus thinks is too far, but it is a good site, the bees are welcomed and during the day or at quiet times of the weekend, it is a 20 minute trip.

    Refractometer question....

Just use a hydrometer –-cheap as chips and simple to use. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stevenson-Hydrometer-Trial-Jar-Case/dp/B00EIDTYX4/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1508934381&sr=8-14&keywords=hygrometer

Could you give us an idea of dimensions and a pic or sketch so we can see the bottom part and how it attaches, please?

Learner Drivers to be alowed on the Motorways?

That is quite different from Beefriendly's stated intention, MartinL. That would be it's correct use, if they had shown no awareness of your presence. However, many motorists don't slow down long enough to give cyclists a chance to move across, but will be on their offside almost as soon as...

Couldn't do it myself – so much plastic for landfill would give me sleepless nights.

    Uncapped honey with capped

:iagree: Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-RHB-90ATC-Refractometer-Sugar-Honey-Concentrations-Monitor-58-90-Brix-/172793471682?hash=item283b4b22c2:g:~AMAAOSwdDpZdrJY I found a similar one for under a tenner, and it's money well spent if it tells you how much water is in...

    Insurance

That sounds like nonsense, icanhopit. Not that they didn't say that, but that it would be a deal breaker. Sometimes you just need to speak to the underwriter because the people we deal with these days have no knowledge of insurance, only the script on their screen.

    Insurance

I think you're probably fine with honey and wax products –-though candles could prove difficult if you used the wrong wick.I suppose –-but other products aren't covered. We intend to start selling creams, balms, etc, and I will probably get some additional cover and also have them tested...

    Insurance

I had a chat with the broker at last year's BBKA ADM and there is an awful lot more cover under the new policy.

    Scottish Honey - Edinburgh

Poly, I don't expect it to be a problem, because once you explain your process, they make an assessment based on that. We simply removed her to the conservatory, cleaned the kitchen, extracted and let her back in. Only took about four hours or so, and she didn't seem too put out by it.

    Scottish Honey - Edinburgh

I am the same position, Poly. I don't produce in volume from my kitchen, but am registered and have had two inspections in the last four years, both of which got me five stars. It's not rocket science, but I expect it will become a little more complicated next time as we've since got a dog...

    Scottish Honey - Edinburgh

Surely a call to one of those mid sized producers would give you the answer to your query about pasteurisation?
