    Price of Land?

I’d heard £12k ish per acre agricultural but huge variation dependant on location. There is a 1 acre plot of agricultural land next door to us with zero scope for development. The estate agents contacted directly and asked us if we would like to buy it for £100k. I thanked them for considering us 😂

OA. How much mite drop do you get?

I wondered why it was limited to once per year. Makes (no) sense now. Lethal for mites / safe for bees / cheap / allowed elsewhere in the world…..of course we can’t use it 🙄

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Thanks. Done three at 5 day intervals (last one today on 4 hives). 48hr mite drop was huge after OAV1, approx 200 after OAV2 and I will check the 3rd in a couple of days. What threshold do you use for the forced mite drop which would make you continue with further OAV?

    Sublimox

Thanks for this. Got the viton ones as recommended in the Apiarist article. Spot on.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

4 hives - all in the same apiary. All drops much bigger than expected after low drops after 3x Gasvap. The Sublimox produces loads more sublimate cloud than the Gasvap so I think it was my poor technique with the Gasvap. Not had anything to compare it to before. Will do as suggested and repeat...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did an OAV (2g / single brood) with the new Sublimox 2 days ago and got a big forced mite drop (board was alarmingly covered). This was 5 days after 3 sequential OAVs with the gasvap and very little mite drop. Is it a reasonable to do another 2 at 5 day intervals with the Sublimox (and accept...

    Sublimox

Have found this Seller quotes max temp as ‘about 200 degrees C’ when asked. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293700100089?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=uuzcCchKSfa&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=_8u6S9wCT8e&var=592508952578&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

    Sublimox

I’ve just bought a used sublimox. It’s in excellent condition and looks hardly used but both white caps are a loose fit. The o-rings look in good condition. I thought it should have a friction fit to create a seal. Is this a problem?

    Clearing Bees from Supers

I put an inverted CB on the top of the stack as well. Roof with an entrance on top. This was based on advice on this forum (I am sorry, can’t remember who). They cleared well apart from 1 super in the middle (ish)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bought a used Sublimox (and a LONG extension lead)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did the same this year due to lack of time (and clearer boards). Stack of 8 with 1 lower and 1 inverted upper CB. 24 hours and most supers were 'mostly' clear. One was still 80% full strangely (no brood).

    Consolidating double brood to single

Thanks. It’s the practical bit really. I hadn’t considered a clearer board as ‘normally’ there would be some brood in both boxes. So, clearer board should work because there is zero brood in the top box? If I clear them down into an empty super between the brood boxes. Remove the cleared top...

    Consolidating double brood to single

Bottom box relatively full of stores with a couple of frames of brood

    Consolidating double brood to single

Seems like a disproportionate amount of stores and not much brood. No brood in one of the boxes. Thought it would be better to reduce down and keep the stores in reserve for this or other hives

    Consolidating double brood to single

I have a double brood setup where the upper brood box has no brood but is 100% full of uncapped and capped stores. I’d like to get it down to a single brood end remove the store frames. The question is that there are still a ton of bees on the frames and if I have to shake them all off, I might...

How to go from two brood boxes to one

If you want to consolidate ‘quickly’ to one box, is it best to put all the brood frames into 1 box and remove and store / extract the excess frames of stores?
