IDIOTS' CORNER - Newbee, out and proud!

Thanks for the advice, I suspect I'll be doing the same from now on. I was stung several times last year but nothing like this (but they were never this close to the eyes)

IDIOTS' CORNER - Newbee, out and proud!

Stung on the nose Another question for the old hands: I was stung on the left side of my nose yesterday- one sneaky little b*gger was lying in wait for me to take off veil. I took a precautionary antihistamine and there was nothing very dramatic last night. However woke this morning to find...

IDIOTS' CORNER - Newbee, out and proud!

swarm cell or supersedure cell? OK, a question and a picture from a first year beekeeper 'idi*t'. What is this- supersedure or swarm cell, or something else? What should I do with it? It appears to be empty- no grub/egg etc. No other queen cells anywhere else in the colony. This was a swarm...

sting problem should i be worried?

Doc needs to see- clearly defined ('well demarcated') spreading rash a couple of days after sting could well be cellulitis

    Foraging in sunny intervals

Idle (perhaps stupid) question from a new beekeeper: Does anyone know how this unsettled rain and sunny interval-type weather affects bees foraging for nectar? Presumably will have something to do with length of the sunny intervals and how long it takes a colonies' foragers to mobilise when...

High varroa count after apiguard- any suggestions?

Thank you for responses. The mite floor was in for all but the first 4-5 days of treatment (until I realised my mistake...) Think I'll try to get hold of more apiguard.

High varroa count after apiguard- any suggestions?

Long time lurker, first time proper post- I'm hoping someone more experienced can advise? First year of beekeeping, hived swarm end June/early July. Put on apiguard August and started feeding about the same time as they weren't expanding. Two trays on for 2 and 4 weeks respectively although...

Hi, I'm a new beekeeper looking to keep bees in north Suffolk. How much are you asking for one of these nucs?
