    Slugs and any other unwanted pests in and around the hive

    New Swarm caught today

    better doing it in the evening they will be less stressed instead of leaving it till tomorrow happy hiving i like to shake them in and any left in the box let them walk on a board i like to watch them plus its a good sign to see bees fanning plus the queen has the best chance to fall in the hive...

    if the bees have been in there for some time its not a swarm so i would be careful as they may defend it well if they have lots of comb it will have to be cut out with brood at all stages making sure the Q can be found and it all resited in one go if you know a bee buddy with a few swarm...

    have you been on any courses or had any expierence with bees only asking if you havent joined your local BBKA please do they give the best advise on how to attract a swarmbee-smillie

    Has anyone extracted honey yet??

    low on stores could spell disaster i was always told not to take the first of there hard graft as soon as the first nector dries up they need it to tie them over before the main flow starts bees could run low on store and they will need it to build the colony to full strength im leaving them...

    just use a spare top bar SN4 and copy the same dimention of the frame (brood frame):party: easy peasy lemon sqeezy happy wood working

    Thought feeding would encourage them to build looking through threads from from late last year people was advised to feed 1 to 1 to help them build comb or have i miss understood :o:grouphug: Dont think they have used any as feeder still full will leave it there now though

    the swarm was only the size of a large pineapple (1.22kg) weighed box of bees then deducted the weight of the box and branch they was on made some more brood frames today but i dont wont to disturb them now for at least 10 days whats your thoughts on that Thanks in advance Alan

    Pick up a swarm yesturday put them in a hive only with 5 frames of foundation dummy boards either side the bees have settled in i hope put 1 to 1 syrup in a rapid feeder the question is i saw bees bringing in pollen could the bees have draw enought comb on the foundation in 24 hrs to store it...

    Got me thinking if a wild colony lost its Q over the winter and no brood available to make emergency cells if a worker starts laying drones this must be a survival instict My main question is has anyone in controlled condtions put a drone egg/lava in a Q cell for the colony to rear and what...

    Boiler suits to bee suits?

    better to be safe that sorry buy a bee suit :party i use a boiler suit with my bee suit its not worth it i think by the time you have sown up the gaps that the bees will find for you and then sting them. get them to chip in half each and share them:blush5:
