How can I tell seales brood from stores?

Thanks all. Must be stores. The middle two frames (where they started building) are uneven. As if the first three inces have overlapped into the beespace of the other... Biy like a zigzag... I do not want to pull the frames out as it looks as though the comb is joined and I don't want to tear it...

How can I tell seales brood from stores?

Hi. A lot going on in the hive today. As I moved them 20 odd miles yesterday I decided to have a look inside to see how they had coped. They are spreading along the frames nicely. Lots of sealed comb.... How do I know if it is brood or stores. Thanks Craig. P.S. I know I should have gone on a...

    Any ideas what is happening

RAB.... Yes, small caste. I was feeding untill a week or so ago. They are bringing lots of pollen in, and I gather July is a good month, so took feed away. I only have two hives, only this one occupied at the moment. I do not have a nuc, so they have one WBC brood box to collonise.

    Any ideas what is happening

I noticed yesterday a lot of activity at the hive enterance. As there is plenty of room in the hive, I dissmissed the thought of swarming. I thought that it was possibly new foragers getting to know where they are. Same today... At about the same time. I then noticed one bee fly from a nearby...

    Oops!! Torn comb

Checked for a laying queen this evening. As the bees are only on 2 or 3 frames (Not one as pressumed on Tuesday) I lifted out the old comb frame, but as they had built across the next frame, I have torn a bit of comb and some honey ran down the frame. I did not then lift all the frame out. Is...

Why are bees still only on one frame?

Hi. After taking advise. I removed the super from my hive. I noticed, after two weeks of moving in, the bees seem to still only be building one the one frame (old comb) It also looks like they have built out so far that there may not be room to build on the next frame. It is prob only a caste...

    What, no spuds??

Hi all, I am pleased with the progress of my new swarm so far. Seem busy and bringing back polen etc. Not checked for laying yet. I was happy to see a big field of potatoes at the end of the quarry yard, but then dissapointed that people are saying on the forum that the bees do not work spuds...

    Does this sound normal?

Hi. As some of you read, I had a swarm move into my hive last Monday. By Wednesday morning they had made quite a lot of wild comb in the roof. I removed this and shook them onto the frames in the brood box. Today I added a super and was suprised they had only built on the old comb and not the...

    Auction in Haye on wye

I went.... Funny how most were sold either as a pile of supers or two broods with a lid. Pushing one to buy two lots to get one hive. A mate and I went halves, so we got a new hive each...... Prices were through the roof, and as Veg said some stuff going for more than new. Well run auction...

Not Bumbles.. I go with the drone idea. I dont know how they got in there. It does seem the BB Moves about a bit on the floor. Maybe they got in between the entrance and the BB. Confused a bit myself
