Nicot - do you, and if so how do you clean the cups

As per title really, I’ve just made a frame up using 20 of the 100 cups and was wondering about the other 80. I’ve read mixed advice about cleaning or just buy new and most people have had success by cleaning, but how should you do it? just wwarm water, or water and soda crystals?

    warming cabinet

perfect, that's a very neat unit and with a 10A output wont require a separate relay. Agree i need the biggest tubular heater i can fit in there - will keep looking for those. My view is that those tubular heaters are used in greenhouses in freezing conditions so should hopefully put up with...

    Supercedure already? - why

yes loads of space, they've only built up 4 frames so far, theres 2 spare and I could take out the false sides and give them all the other empty frames if I wanted. the other 3 frames have loads of capped brood - just this one is mainly stores

    Supercedure already? - why

I collected a very small cast swarm on the 25th April. The bees have always been a bit tetchy compared to my other two hives but not really aggressive. After a few weeks I still hadn't found the queen so I donated a frame of brood from my other good hive but then shortly after that the queen...

    bridged frames

Cheers guys, I'll get the knifes out at the weekend
  16. Tony b

    bridged frames

They're the deep Hoffman frames pushed up tight together - the bridging isn't across the whole comb - on one side there's a single section about 2" square (right in the middle of the frame) and on the other side about 4 smaller sections across the top of the frame - its just comb though when I...

    bridged frames

Hi, new to this and learning loads. I have a hive filled from a cast swarm I collected about a month ago now, the bees were very grumpy (compared to the other swarms I had collected) and after a week or so of not being able to see the queen, and the bees remaining grumpy I put in a frame of...

    Suits connundrum

lots of great opinions - thanks guys. if I was to summarise this its obvious you get better quality in a suit from say BB wear, and I think that's exactly where I will go once my "cheaper" suit starts to show problems. it sounds however one of the issues is the amount of time its used and how...

    Suits connundrum

well, bizarrely I was just out walking the dogs and found a swarm, so the new suit has just been tested out and I can report no stings whatsoever, underneath I was wearing jeans and a T shirt - so all good so far !!!!
